Hi I have heart failure a mechanical aortic valve a repaired aorta, and have a CRT-D implant. And after contacting most of the insurance companies that are on tv and comparison sites I found Avanti insurance by far the best
Hello,
I have vasospastic angina, I use Staysure or Avanti.
I have to use oxygen on the flight which needs organising beforehand. I have to get a fit to fly letter. I also use assisted travel, as I can't stand for long periods.
Have a lovely holiday.
Do you mind me asking what level of O2 you need for flying? I am on 5 litres normally so I would need a higher amount and wonder if this would prevent an airline accepting me. Also, Staysure refused to insure me totally in spite of having had several policies with them in the past!
Thanks.
Hi MelB51
I am on 2L of oxygen.
I use a portable oxygen concentrator which is approved by the airline. I have to have enough battery power to cover the length of the flight twice over.
I have to get my fit to fly letter 2 weeks before I fly and give the airline the details of my oxygen requirements and oxygen concentrator.
I need my oxygen as the change in air pressure and lower oxygen levels will trigger my coronary vasospasms.
I have problems in the mountains too.
Have you spoken to the airline?
It is possible to book a seat with piped oxygen, it costs more- of course!
I am sorry to hear Staysure wouldn't insure you.
I can't get worldwide cover for multiple trips.
Have you tried an insurance broker?
I have flown with O2 and a fit-to-fly declaration etc which cost quite a lot! The cost of hiring an O2 concentrator for a week in Lanzarote was over 500Euro too so it put about another £1000 onto the cost of my holiday!
We have a place in the south of France so I bought my own concentrator as we stay for the 3 months Brexit allowance. I have 2 portable O2 machines at a cost of £2500 each so this illness is costing me a small fortune!!
I had no idea piped oxygen was a possibility. I will look into that immediately! Cost is irrelevant at this stage! Thanks for your help.
You can use a comparison website to find the best cover , but you must answer all the questions truthfully. One fib, or detail left out, can later invalidate the whole policy. I can't stress this enough as I worked as a travel agent for many years and saw terrible problems people faced, by having inadequate travel insurance.
I'm 71 and have angina, I take Altorvorstatin and Ramipril. Recent quotes for me vary from £230 - £480 annual cover for Europe, that's with £2million health and £3k cancellation cover.
Hi Rosehal, I had a Type A aortic dissection in April 23 they also did a femoral to femoral bypass to restore the blood supply to my left leg (I'm 53)Me & my wife already had worldwide travel insurance with cruises through a nationwide flexplus bank account (£13/month for travel/mobile phone insurance & car breakdown cover) we phoned to tell them about my new medical situation I ended up paying a top up of £217 for 1 year over. I way really happy with that. I did get a quote from staysure they much more & then I got bombarded with emails from them.
Good luck & have a great holiday
Me and my wife have the same problem getting travel insurance we have been quoted more for a weeks insurance than the cost of the holiday. I always put down all our ailments but I'm always conseaned that I've put everything down. When getting insurance online it's up to you to insure that the cover suits your needs but there's no advice from anyone to reassure you that you have. Fortunately we have been lucky and haven't had to put it to the test It's a worry that's always there. The new health card is a worry what does it cover and what do you pay for.
Sorry not much help!
