A loop recorder doesn't affect your heart in any way so shouldn't make a difference to your insurance. The only problem might be whatever symptoms are causing you to have it fitted.

The fitting is very simple - you're in hospital for a few hours altogether and the procedure takes about half an hour from start to finish.

There's a tiny spot where the gadget is inserted and secured to you, that has a dissolvable stitch, which is a bit sore for a couple of weeks but you wouldn't really know about it after that, other than showing up as a little "torpedo" on x-rays and being able to feel it with your fingers under your skin.

Just put a peg on your car seat belt to stop it being quite as tight as normal while it's healing. This doesn't affect the performance of your seat belt.

A friend had a loop recorder fitted which quickly showed exactly what was wrong so he could have the correct pacemaker and he's fine now - does all sorts of things including sailing.

Mine showed what was wrong and I've been able to adjust my mineral levels a bit (I have malabsorption problems) and I've been OK since!

I hope yours is as successful.

Best to ask your cardiology team about the insurance. Call the main cardiology help desk number and they should either be able to help or direct you to someone who can.

Good luck!

Good morning, There has been plenty of advice about travel insurance on this site, ranging from companies who are supposed to deliver good value, but some don't, to online advice just by asking how to get cover. I had our insurance from our bank Nationwide, just by changing our account from Flex to Flex plus. It cost us £240 upfront to cover my angina and osteo arthritis, then £13/month for Worlwide cover. I am sure that if you take your time and look around, you will find cover.

Hi, I also have a loop recorder and got travel insurance this summer through Allclear. Other insurers had turned me down. Good luck.

Turned you down for something as benign as a loop recorder?

Says a lot for risk adverse insurance companies.

Wait until they catch onto the risks of Fitbits and other health monitoring.

For heaven's sake don't tell them you take your own blood pressure readings.

I have had great intel. My problem was it was diagnostic testing which many insurance providers did not want to know.

But thanks everyone.
