loop fitted

Hi, I have had a loop fitted but not sure where to go from here. The hospital said they will contact me if they find anything and can be left in for 3 years. Not sure how long to wait before I chase them.

is it the type that is connected to the hospital or the type where you press a record box when you feel something is going on ?

yes I have a unit by my bed and a mobile handheld for carrying with me.

They will contact you if something shows up. The ones that don’t have a bedside unit are down loaded when you take the hand held to the hospital to be read by the EP. They would be sent appointments for this.

As I have posted before, my wife had a Loop Recorder fitted in October last year. There is no medical follow up as such as the device should phone home each night. Sometimes it can miss a download which we were told is nothing to worry about. In my wife’s case, she had a heart-related loss of consciousness episode a month later which resulted in me taking her to A&E. (The event occurred in the early morning hours so the tracing team was not available).

The tracing team downloaded data from the recorder and as a result my wife was admitted to ACU and fitted with a 2-lead pacemaker a few days later. There is no need to chase anyone unless you are experiencing some heart-related symptoms. If the device fails or the daily results are a concern then the tracing team should contact you.

FWiW, we were told that the Loop Recorder is not 4 year holter monitor. The tracing team will have set specific parameters such as heart pauses >4 seconds depending on your suspected medical condition. If a parameter is exceeded, the heart trace prior to and after the ‘event’ is stored and reported back overnight. After a few days, the data gets overwritten.

Thanks for the reply. I just wondered how I go about travel insurance if I have not actually been diagnosed with anything. Maybe I will give them a ring.
