Had a triple bypass last Monday. Surgery went well. And bounced in and out of CICU and HDU, deposited on the ward and left with my swirling thoughts. My recovery was going well.
On the Wednesday night, I treated myself to some ice cream for a desert on the hospital menu.
Two spoons in, I felt a weird flutter and summoned the nurse. They hooked me up and while they were performing an ECG, the sweaty, rotten feeling of AF washed over me.
Surgeons said this is common. Effects 40% of people post CABG, and should resolve itself.
The next night, stupidly, I strained—trying to hard to go for a poo after all that morphine. I flipped into AF again. Again managed and dealt with—sinus ensued.
I was discharged Saturday, and finally enjoyed a blissful five hours straight sleep in my own bed.
The next day, with my family clucking around me, I took it easy. For my desert on the Sunday night, I had a healthy bowel of Greek Yogurt. Three spoons in, bosh. My heart flipped into AF.
My wife took me to ED. Currently, after five hours of feeling rubbish, I reverted back to sinus.
My question is to those more versed with AF.
Does cold food trigger AF?
Does over eating trigger AF?
Does oily food trigger AF?
I know this is temporary, and apart from feeling like garbage, this will pass. But if I can eliminate certain things to avoid future bouts of AF.
I would like to know.
Many thanks.
