I was put on amiodarone although I was very worried about it,because I was told it would help with a forthcomoning cardioversion, whilst I was told this had been successful,I am not sure whether I have gone back into AF and wonder whether I have to continue taking amiodarone if an ablation is the next procedure.I fully realise that I cannot stop taking it without talking to the consultant, but since I have been taking it,I have felt really terrible with neck aches and feeling tiredness and a feeling of unsteadiness.Does anyone know whether taking the likes of amiodarone is necessary for having an ablation.

Sorry I can’t offer much help but would it be worth calling 111 and speaking to a pharmacist about the medication query?
All the best.

hi I’m having a CRT-D fitted in a couple of days this Wednesday my cardiologist told me I have to go on this drug then after a while he is going to have me back in to stop the pacemaker part of it to see if this drug keeps my heart at a safe pace and if it does I’m to have an ablation but he didn’t tell me time wise when this will happen yet. If I get more information from Wednesday I will let you know. He did tell me that even though it’s a nasty drug it’s the best one to have to regulate the heart beats as I told him I wasn’t sure and he promptly told me that I have no choice. I’m also worried about taking it. Hope all goes well and you get some answers soon. Joy
I have an ICD and experienced Ventricular Tachycardia (dangerous fast heart beat) in May of this year. Received two shocks from the ICD and went to A&E.I was treated with Amiodarone to bring things under control.
I've been listed for an Ablation and will remain on Amiodarone until the operation.
I would say your treatment makes sense as the Amiodarone is controlling your erratic heart beat until it can be hopefully fixed with an Ablation.
I'm with Dave here, I had VT while they were inserting the ICD. They gave me a 24hr IV bag of it and trust me the pills are insignificant compared to the burning veins it gave me!
I would say trust them, they don't give you something as nasty as that unless you REALLY need it. (i've been on it for 6 months with no real side effects)
A little incidental note, on the NHS website you can search almost all pills and get a description/side effect list etc except amiodarone.....
I am on Amiodrone and have been told to stay on it until i see about ablation --I asked if I could come of it as i am scared about taking it because of the damage it can cause .When i had cardioversion it only worked for 3 days and Afib was much worse for a few weeks --have been on it for 7 months and over the past 4 months my afib has improved greatly I feel so much better
