Hi everyone , I had low blood pressure a few weeks ago GP took me off the Ramipril , a week after this I had what I can only describe as the same symptoms as my HA , took my spray and the pain went , but now my pulse is low , GP said this should never have happened and has referred me back to cardiology , I am very worried as I have become very tired again , and really don't know what a low pulse means

If not dangerously low, it is a good thing. Athletes have a low pulse rate.

Low heart rate is generally considered to be less than 60 beats a minute. While it is not unusual in young people and those who are particularly fit there are other causes such as heart disease which following a heart you will have some form of. Are you taking a beta blocker? as these are normally given after heart attacks to slow and strengthen the heart rate. Beta blockers generally reduce the heart rate by up to 20 beats a minute. My heart rate generally ranges from 49 to 60 beats at rest but I don't feel any Ill effects. Very low heart beat can cause symptoms such as being short of breath and chest pain and tiredness among other things. The medical name for low heart rate is bradycardia. Do you know what your heart rate is normally and what it is at the moment. I sense how you are feeling is causing you to be anxious as well and to be worried. Try not to focus to much on the low heart rate but if you are having chest pain and feel unwell visit A&E if your gtn spray doesn't relieve it. Let us know how you get on. Also give one of the BHF Nurses a call to discuss how you are feeling on 0300 330 3311

Thankyou for your reply Nathan53 , I am on beta blockers , I don't really know anything which I think is what is worrying me , no-one ever seems to want to give me any information , I am breathless I have told my GP this , my stomach is also swollen , I get severe back pain after walking between my shoulders , my GP didn't even examine my stomach just referred me for a scan

Some of your meds may be causing you to feel short of breath - they are necessary keep taking them but be aware of this possibility. Try asking BHF your questions also have you a trusted friend or contact who can accompany you to Gp if you have unanswered questions. Sometimes with every pain or problem we link it to our heart condition - please don't think I am minimising your unpleasant symptoms it is just a general observation of my own experience and that of others on here at times. Good luck

Just a single point. My heart rate is kept low (58-60] with meds, but if I need a spray, this will bring heart rate even lower. Last week I needed three sprays before going to A and E, and by then my HA was v low.

Good point Kristin also Gtn spray will again lower blood pressure so by all means you must use your spray if you have chest pain but make sure you are sitting down when using it.

I realize we are all different, but I was on Ramipril and a beta blocker about 2 1/2 years ago. These drugs however had a bad 're-action and I was unable to tolerate them. My blood pressure went really low, to the point i was fainting. I was obviously taken of the ramipril, but had my beta blocker dose reduced, however I was later diagnosed with coronary heart spasms ( due to on going angina issues ), and taken off the beta blocker. I had an heart attack 3 years ago, and 3 surgeries and 4 stents. Feel better now that I been diagnosed, and taken off the ramipril. Still get angina/spasm attacks and the GTN spray works ok most of the time. I would however stress that if you have to use your GTN more then twice , then you need to go to hospital. Been told off a few times by cardiology for not doing this. All the best and take care.

dropped down to 50 yo 60.They dident seem concerned so hopefully

mine will be fine.It must be strange for your body to have these changes.

Hi,. my heart rate on waking is usually 58bpm sometimes lower that's before I take felidopin for high blood pressure, then it goes up a bit during day, ( I take my own blood pressure daily, I think lower heart rate is a good thing if everything else is fine,. Hope you are keeping well. X
