hi there when you wear the 7 day event recorder do you have to press any buttons to activate it or does it do it automatically?

Depending on whether you are fitted for it at hospital they will always set everything up before you are fitted for monitor and if your sent the monitor to fit it yourself when you connect both wires together it will automatically come on and start recording. Hope this helps x

Good morning, I’m waiting on a hospital appoit to have one fitted. How big are they and do you sleep with it on too?

Hi, the monitor is about the size of an alarm clock that sits on your waist attached to a waist band in a little bag, with ecg stickers attached that's the most annoying part and sleeping while hooked up to one for 48 hours is not fun. How long have you got to wear it???

Thank you for replying, it will be for 7 days .

ok 7 days are the toughest, usually when it's for 7 days I get sent the monitor and have to set it up myself they provide extra ecg tags and you can shower wearing it. But the one they fit at the hospital I don't think I've ever had to wear that for 7 days. Hope all goes well. I have my appointment to have it fitted on 4th August hope you get yours soon x

I've had a 7 day one fitted before - it's not that bad, but a relief to get it off. You get used to it lol

Best wishes

I had one a while ago and yes you sleep with it on. A bit fiddly but doable. They will explain everything at your fitting. I did have to reconnect the electrodes every now and again as bending or catching the leads can detach them but that is normal. I could remove it to shower and they give you new sticky pads to use to re attach it. It did irritate my skin a bit and I was very glad to get it off but it did it's job and you get used to it quite quickly

I didn't need to touch anything when I had one.

I’m wearing a 7 day monitor now. They told me to just reconnect to new stickers (given to me) after I shower. I don’t need to do anything, it will just look after itself.

This is the 3rd time I’ve had one. The first two times it interrupted my sleep a little (I tucked it under my pillow) but this time I’ve found clipping it to the top button of my nightshirt doesn’t bother me at all. I forget it’s there.

HiThe event monitor is different from the holter monitor. With the event one you have to push the button if you have an event then sit or lie very still until the event has stopped . The holter monitor records continouously. Did the staff mot explain all this to you when you were given it?

When I've had one they fit it but they've always hung it round my neck on a ribbon which can be a real nuisance at night when it tries to strangle you. I usually undo the ribbon and pin it to my PJs. The box is around the size of a pack of cigarettes. The electrodes bring me out in blisters so I get the hypoallergenic ones. However last time all but one of the electrodes fell off because the glue didn't hold well. I had to go back as they forgot to give me any spare sticky pads. The machine itself is automatic. YOu don't need to do anything.
