Hello everyone Does anyone here have an implantable loop recorder? My doctor thinks I should get one because of my AF. He says it's really small, so you cannot see or feel it. Is that true? Or is he just telling me this to convince me to get it? And can you still have a normal life with it?
Implantable loop recorder: Hello... - British Heart Fou...
Implantable loop recorder
I’m 29 and have one! It’s sort of feels like a mini usb stick, not uncomfortable at all and I barely notice it’s there 😊
Hi Laurap18, I had one fitted about a year ago and it’s probably about 25mm long and 4mm wide. It is barely noticeable although I can feel the end of the recorder where the incision was made. I have a Medicare modem by my bed which transmits data every evening so I am told! I have led a normal life since having it fitted but you need to declare you have one before going through airport scanners. My device has picked up several events of VT and AT which my Cardiologist has been able to assess. Amazing technology really! Best of luck!
I have one - it's tiny - a bit like a long medicine capsule.
It's been great and actually my heart has settled down and started to run properly since I've had it because I've been able to work with the cardiology team to figure out what's wrong and make some adjustments to my diet (I have vitamin and mineral deficiencies) to get it to run better.
The peace of mind that knowing someone will help me, that it has given me, is tremendous and has contributed to the improvement too, even though I wasn't worried about it before - I was just frustrated that I wasn't being taken seriously.
The implant site was quite sore for the first week or so, but nothing that ibuprofen and paracetamol couldn't fix. Soon after that I couldn't feel it at all.
I think it will be well worth having done - I'd certainly do it again!
Good luck with feeling better!
Hi I’ve had one for about a year now with no problems. I download the monitor which is very easy when they ask me to and then get the results. It was a bit sore for a week but other than that no problems.
you could ask after a zio patch instead which is an external recorder for Afib
I had one fitted in March to check for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. It’s a tiny little thing that I can feel just below my collar bone { if I want to, it can’t be felt unless you look for it) The procedure is very simple, mine took about an hour but most of that time was waiting for local anaesthetic to work. It’s an amazing little device so go for it if that’s what they’ve suggested.
My daughter had one implanted when she was 10 years old to pick up / record cardiac episodes. It is amazing technology. She had a perfectly normal life with it, continued all her sports, swimming, etc. She couldn’t feel it and has a very small incision where it was put in and then removed. She had hers put in at Great Ormond Street and they were very considerate in where the incision was made. It was definitely worth it for a very small amount of inconvenience.
