I had a MI 2 weeks ago and was fitted with 2 stents & a balloon. I was in Canada at the time. I was commenced on Metoprolol 12.5mg twice a day as well as Asprin, statin & antigogulant. My Peridopril was also increased to 4mg from 2mg.
I feel great but sleepy, my pulse is 50 - 55 and I am wandering if it is the beta blocker. My GP wants to start me on Bisoporol 5mg twice a day but I am worried that this will lower my heart rate again and make me even more sleepy. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks

When I had my MINOCA last year, and was commenced on medication, I had both bradycardia and tiredness as a result of my medicines. However, as my body adjusted, these side effects disappeared and it doesn’t happen very often now. I believe it’s probably just a case of your body having to adjust.
Good plan, Keep an eye on the pattern of when your BP or Heart Rate get low , and note any symptoms you are having.
This will help you GP make a decision about what medication to try , which dose to use , and will help them give you guidance of the best time to take it to stop these low periods happening.
You have had a big change to your life.
Both the event , surgery and the introduction of medications and all of this can have an effect on you as you recover and adjust.
It is a learning curve for you and your doctors at first as to what works best for you , not everyone takes the same amount of medications , information sharing with your care team is vital to helping you feel more yourself again soon.
But if in doubt , or concerned, always ask questions , always report it and get advice.
I have a relatively low heart rate anyway due to a lot of cycling, I asked the doctor to come off bisoprolol as it wasn't needed and it was lowering it even further, I was down to an average of 43.It didn't make me sleepy so maybe that is something else
Have you seen a cardiologist here in uk since your MI, they’re the ones who decide the medication stuff just after the event and when there happy refer you back to the gp.
thank you all. I am finding adjusting to everything quite difficult. GP made a referral last week to cardiologist and local cardiology nurse but I haven’t heard anything yet.
I feel quite numb not knowing what I can and can’t do.
i am glad for you that you got good treatment while outside the UK and hope your recovery continues smoothly
when you have treatment outside your Health Authority area (in UK and overseas) it can take a while for a referral to an NHS consultant to take effect. In the meantime you have to rely on your GP to fill the gap. There is also the British Heart Foundation phone helpline during office hours - see their website for the number. You can also ask your pharmacist if you have any queries about your medication.
The one thing that completely knocked me out after my heart attack was bisopralol. I was on teh lowest dose and it dropped my BP and heart rate so low I slept almost all day. I had to have it changed
