Low pulse rate when lying and sitting down.

I had a mitral valve and tricuspid valve repair 6 weeks ago today. Doing OK walking a mile or two a day wound healing well sleeping and eating OK although I've lost a stone which isn't a problem. I've noticed my pulse is very low when resting 36 to 38. Now if I walk up the stairs it will go to 70s 80s etc. I have no symptoms dizziness breathlessness etc. Feel fine I'm myself. I was put on amiodarone and beta blockers after the op as I went into AF this is common I understand after valve surgery. My question is would this be a case that my medication needs adjusting or are we looking at the fact I may need a pacemaker after the op?

To my way of thinking that pulse rate sounds a bit too low. I'd have a chat with your GP tomorrow and see what he has to say.

This very much sounds like too high a dose of your beta blocker. Mine is now 1/3rd the dose I was initially put on and is the minimum dose for the type I'm on. Even so, sitting relaxed my pulse is usually in the 40s. I have to be careful getting up as I can go dizzy, particularly when I've been sat for a while.

Yep GP has told me to reduce beta blockers and see where we are after that. Thanks for the advice

Hi, I had exactly the same procedure two years ago (at age 63), and took amiodarone post op to control rhythm. I was being considered for a pacemaker too, but a medication adjustment sorted me out. I would strongly suggest a consultation asap to discuss your readings and meds. The only advantage (apart from the obvious massive improvement in quality of life) in having had this surgery, is receptionists take you seriously when you ring for an appointment. Be confident in your team - they should be able to sort you out. Best of luck with your continued recovery.

Yes called the GP today they said I could get an appointment 3 weeks on Tuesday at 600am. Only kidding called me back and did a telephone triage he told me to reduce my beta blockers which I have done. Dont fancy a pacemaker so hope this works. I am sue to see my surgeon on NYE so I will get his input then about pacemaker etc. Thanks again 👍
