Hi everyone, the last few weeks I've had low phosphates and some scary heart events. In 3 weeks I've had 2 IVs of phosphate plus tablets to bring levels up. Since this began I've also been feeling like my heart stops or skips a beat. It then starts beating really fast (140) for 2 minutes sometims more, then going back down again. I've had chest pain with this at times and have had a few a&e visits because of it. Just off loading and wondering if anyone can help me get my head straight. Right now waiting for investigations to happen but in the mean time how do I stop thinking I'm going to die? The level of anxiety this is causing is unreal. If you've made it this far thank you for reading my story ❤️
Heart rates: Hi everyone, the last few... - British Heart Fou...
Heart rates
Still don't have a cause for the low phosphate going to see the gp & hope to get some investigations done to figure it out.Sorry to hear your suffering with ectopic beats. Thank you for taking the time to reassure me & think your amazing typing such a calm reply to me while you were having them
I Just spent a very unpleasant 4 days in hospital after my heart started doing a rumba; pulse going from 42 bpm to 120 and back in seconds. In the end it raced so erratically with hundreds of those extra beats I rang 999 because it wouldn't even give a BP reading it was so erratic. I've had palpitations or ectopic beats for years but this was constant. Even so I've been assured they are to t ally harmless if very unpleasant. In among all the extra beats my heart is still doing a normal rhythm. I was diagnosed with extra systolic arrhythmia and sent home with new tablets. Turns out I'm allergic to the tablets but my GP Is quite happy to stop them. He's getting a report on the numerous ECGs I had to be certain there's nothing else hiding there but for the extra beats he's not at all worried.
5 years ago I had an unrelated heart attack, two stents and two further part blockages were found. I'd been really worried they could be getting worse so at least this hospital visit reassured me that my heart is in perfect condition; no damage and no worsening of the unstented blockages. My episode was most likely triggered by stress; we'd had an extremely bad two weeks with various problems . I do know that anxiety makes ectopics much worse but it's just an electrical problem and is not going to kill me.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my message. I'm sorry to hear you've had a lot going on and some pretty scary things happening to you!
Yes it was rough but I hope you could see that the ectopic b eats just didn't worry the doctors once they knew which part of the heart they came from. I first got ectopics years ago. It was very difficult to catch and record them as they were so random but once they did they weren't worried. From my own experience, the less worried about them, the fewer I had and they eventually stopped completely until now. These h ad a different cause but are just as harmless even though they feel horrible.
Can truly relate to how awful it can feel. Hope like you I can get some answers and confirmation that they are harmless ectopic beats, sure once that is done I won't be as terrified by them
Cardio got back to my GP and agreed that I should not take any meds right now; just wait and see if it happens again and also agreed his diagnosis of unstable angina was probably wrong and just due to how bad the ectopics were when I was admitted. It doesn't give you much confidence when they suddenly change their minds. I'd never had angina or anything remotely like it.
Thank you for replying to me! Got a GP appointment next week & trying to stay sane until then 😊 Sending you lots of well wishes & hope you can get back to running soon!
