My wife and I like to visit Australia, and have been there several times. Now I have mild angina and we are both in our eighties, travel insurance costs us as much as a third long-haul ticket.
I’ve joined your discussion group for tips on how to get the best value for money. Last year we used GoodToGo, which was quite comprehensive, and as one hopes for, no claim was needed. It was a great trip.

We are different, age, gender, ethnicity, health issues, where we are going and for how long and so travel insurance providers assess us differently. I suggest you go to a website covering travel insurance with pre existing medical conditions, answer all the questions honestly and go from there. Or talk to a local broker. You will certainly find that if you have any pending investigations or procedures your options will be limited. And just because someone on here says company A worked really well for them doesn't mean it will be the same for you.
My favourite ( not ) exercise pre-travel is getting travel insurance quotes using aliases. I know exactly what you mean about the 'third air ticket' cost. My wife scores AF from time to time and her insurance for 'Medical Only' was nudging AUD$1000.00 for a 3 week holiday. We use Southern Cross Travel because they are the only company with reasonably priced Medical Only and they actually have a heart. Long story.
Hi, requests for help with travel insurance comes up a lot on here. Been several requests over the last couple of days for example. Using the search function and looking for insurance will probably bring up loads of suggestions for you.
I went to Vancouver last summer on a travel policy from the Post Office. It was a reasonable price, somewhere in the region of £350 for me for a fortnight. My wife travelled in the policy included with our bank account.
Glad you had a good trip. I used good to go. And had to cancel my trip and it took nine months and going through an ombudsman to get my money back. They were dreadful and treated us badly. I would never go with them again. I’m just glad you didn’t need to make a claim. I would not recommend them under any circumstances
I just finalised with Avanti. Their advisor was very helpful on the phone and wife and I decided on the spot to accept their maximum cover quote with Excess Waiver. This is one third below GoodToGo’s figure.
