I am sorry to read what you are going through and having had a triple bypass and been older than you I can only imagine how you feel and how scared this must be making you feel
No one really though can tell you what to do but we can share our thoughts and experiences and then it is down to you to decide what will be best
I was told where my arteries were blocked they would not be able to stent them so the Bypass was the only way to go
My Dad had a quadruple bypass when he was in his 40's he was still here at 77 as fit as anything regretfully he went on to get something else nothing to do with his heart and that is what took him but his heart they said was still as strong as an ox their words so his Bypass operation served him very well indeed and gave him many more years and he lived a full and happy life
I am anxious by nature and when I was told I had to have one I was petrified but it was not as bad as I thought I was quite surprised really how things went
You been young I would imagine would have a very successful operation with a good recovery and go on to live a long and happy life
The Consultants and Specialists know what they are doing you are in safe hands but for me I would always take their advice as much as it might scare me because they know best and if they told me like they did it is a Bypass you need then for me I put my faith in them and I am so glad I did
I know you will get more replies and when you have decided what to do let us know and people will answer anything you need to know the best they can as well as be there to give you support
Hello lovely, I had a bypass at 34 - stenting wasn’t an option for me either. I totally understand that it’s scary and I would be more than happy to talk on the phone with you, or if it works, meet up.
I’m so happy I had my op, it brought me back to life. And because I was young I bounced back from it - I was back to running/exercising/living/working really quickly…I was back to doing things I hadn’t been able to do for years.
Send me a message if you like and we can talk more xx
Hello! I had a bypass last year at 59 as my left lad was blocked, so there no option of stents. My Dad had a triple bypass at 59 too, he lived a much better life even returning to golf which he hadn't done for 7 years prior to his op. Personally I found the thought of it much worse than the operation & and recovery. 8 months on now, I'm thankful that I had the op & apart from the seemingly normal anxieties I'm doing well. Only you can decide but the experts know what they're talking about. Good luck & I hope you're ok x
Hi - I would definitely do what the medical team recommends. At your age, your recovery should be relatively quick and you'll be ready for the rest of your life with new plumbing. I had a triple by-pass nearly 5 years ago (when I was 68) and am fit and well, exercising regularly and looking forward to many more years. It's normal to be anxious but the surgeon does these operations as part of her/his job every day and will be recommending what is best for you. This BHF article confirms that CABG is the better option when there are multiple blockages. When I had the op, it was only the second time I'd had a general anaesthetic but it wasn't in the least bit scary - the care was excellent. Best wishes, David bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...
It's your choice but with the cabg that is you fixed for many many years, my father had his at 45 and had zero issues until he died of natural causes at 86.
I understand being scared I think we all were for our own operations. It's a major operation but recovery is surprisingly quick.
I wanted a stent when I was diagnosed but after my case was reviewed by 3 surgeons during my visit to the cath lab and then by my surgeon who performed my cabg. The general consensus was for open heart surgery. 8 months in I am so glad I had the CABG operation. I feel great some residual pain around the chest and scars.
Like others listen to the surgeon would me advice.
My 3x cabg bypass went well. Got discharged yesterday and finally home. The recovery doesnt seem easy as is the chest is stiff so i cant stand up straight.
Throat is still sore from the breathing tubes they use.
99% of food tastes bitter apart from water. Even packet of sugar is bitter.
But starting to walk more and more so hopefully will aid recovery.
