My husband wears a smartwatch which has alerted him that it has detected an irregular heartbeat. How accurate do you think these smartwatch are?

Best get it checked out. I send a regular ECG recording to my cardiologist from my iPhone. Not all watches are as accurate, but AF is so common it’s probably telling the truth. Next thing is not to panic in my experience and ensure you get to see a specialist sooner rather than later.

I ware one too but I wouldn’t rely on it. I’m currently in hospital waiting for a Pacemaker. I’m told I’m in AF yet my watch says no!

After many years of me suspecting AFib, my Apple Watch detected it - allowing for a diagnosis last year. I am relieved to be on anticoagulants now, as my sisters both had strokes due to undetected AFib.

I would say to get it checked out.

Very. The best person to discuss this with is an Electrophysiologist, a cardiologist with extra training in arrhythmia.

Not all cardiologists are well versed in arrhythmia and also GPs can have limited expertise.

Most NHS trusts have them.

You can also ask to be referred put of area, you have the right to do this.

If funds allow, try private route. Seen within days or few weeks.

If it is Atrial Fibrillation or Atrial Flutter, they will assess the Chadsvac score for stroke risk. If its low, fine,if not anticoagulants are required.

Can be well-controlled with medication or procedures.

Head over to the AF Association on health unlocked if you want more support.

Try not to worry xx

Just get it checked although my apple watch has given me two irregular warnings as Afib as has my Kardio Mobile on a few occasions in the last few years. Got all the traces checked and they were just ectopics I was having so no Afib. Still better safe than sorry.

Thank you to everyone who responded. He saw his GP which resulted in a cardiology referral. The waiting time was too long for our liking so got a private appointment within 24 hours. Now having prolonged ECG, echo and stress ECG/echo so feel happy that we will soon have a diagnosis and treatment (if required).
