Hi I’m new here and newly diagnosed with AF.
My medication doesn’t seem to be working, although been raised twice in 2 weeks. I’m on Bisoprolol and Apaxiban.
My main worry is, is it ever going to settle so I can live normally?

Hey welcome to the group Honestly I was in the exact same shoe as you when I first was diagnosed with Afib I was 2.5 mg of bisoporol and has been increased multiply time time I am currently on 10 mg of bisoporol. Also because my Afib has also caused me to developers a persistent a flutter and after multiple holter monitors I’ve been taking diltiazam 180 mg which also got increased 220 mg and then I’ve been prescribed amoidrone which is a rhythmic medication so with the combination of all these medication my heart rate has been under control but the option for use is I believe is to go ahead and proceed with an ablation so I’m scheduled for one in January. My advice to you since your new is don’t panic it’s not a deadly condition as long as your on blood thinner you reduce the chance of stroke and it’s will take a while to find the appropriate medication that will suit. And remember there is plenty of medication if one doesn’t work there are others . Try to remind yourself that I’m not in danger and be grateful because your not in permanent stage like most of us here so it’s good it was fought on early that it can be treated before it becomes permanent. Best of luck and always follow you cardiologist advice and what ever you do don’t google anything.
Hope you feel better soon
Hi. Thank you so much x
Ceils welcome to the forum. When my "journey" began 4 years ago my HF Nurse explained that I was like a finely tuned Ferrari and it would take time to get the medication balance right. There are certain drugs that suit one person but not another and sometimes its trial and error getting things right. I kept a diary of how I felt each day and the side effects that I experienced which certainly helped.
Thank you
I was put on Bisopropol and Apixaban in September due to AF but had to stop Bisopropol after few days as it lowered my heart rate to much. But was seen by the AF clinic at the hospital a couple of days later. And put on Dronedarone have just had to stop that on Thursday as consultant cardiologist not happy as it can affect the potency of a tablet I take for nerve pain. So just waiting for my GP to get a letter from the hospital so they can prescribe Flecainide.
My AF has been diagnosed as PAF . Was seen by AF clinic every week for a month them monthly. Got next appointment on 12th if they are happy with me on the new tablet they will discharge me from the clinic into my GPs care as Flecainide can be prescribed by them where as Dronedarone could only be prescribed by the hospital.
I live in the north west and you get seen by the AF clinic once diagnosed and they access you to see what care you need.
My brother has permanent AF should have a ECG every 6 months hasn't had one for 2 years . He lives in the West Midlands. Isn't under an AF clinic.
Hope you get the help you need soon.
Thank you
Same here for me not seen anyone for years
Hi Ceils,it is scary when you are fist diagnosed but try not to worry. It Does take a while to get the meds right. life will/should get back to normal in time. Just be patient.
Thank you
My Cardiologist suddenly suggested that I have AF which makes me feel at times very tired. One minute I am full of energy then suddenly I feel very lethargic and lightheaded. I am now prescribed 'Apixaban' 2.5 mg twice daily. I am wondering whether this will cause me any side effects listed on the leaflet. Concerned for hair loss, I was on Clopedogrel where I realised my hair was thinning since taking this drug. Just starting the Apixaban tomorrow, and the Chemist said he will phone me next week to see how I am getting on, on it. Is this regular?
