I’ve been on biso for 2 years with not much problem, but now i got a different brand and it gives me allergic symptoms like: trouble breathing and swallowing, chest pain, makes me very lethargic, anxious and sleepy. I tried metoprolol and it gave me the same symptoms. I don’t why I can’t tolerate it. Any help?

Call your GP in the morning to discuss your symptoms... if you're certain it's medication, there are alternatives.

If it's something else, it should be checked out.

Either way, you'll need a doctor to diagnose and treat.

Agreed. It's very unusual for a brand name change or change from a branded drug to a generic drug to have a big effect, always assuming that the drugs are chemically identical.

Calopo20 , suggest that you double check all your drugs to ensure that you have the correct ones.

Once, when Crestor came off patent and was replaced by the generic rosuvastatin, my pharmacy accidentally dispensed the wrong drug (from an adjacent storage location. Instead of a stating, I got a blood thinner. I didn't notice until 1 or 2 weeks later.

It was a genuine, but serious, mistake by the pharmacy.

Moral of the story: check drugs carefully, even if you've been taken them for years.

I have had issues with BP medication in the past as the fillers and pigments can be different in generics. Gave me palpitations the last thing any heartie needs! Ask your GP to prescribe the brand you were on.

I know there's other medication that you can take, but I don't know what it is, so I suggest you contact your doctor

Dear You,

As others have said I also have trouble if my Pharmacist changes any of my meds for generic ones, the reaction is very fast, so that could well be it.

Hope you get it sorted

Calopo20, I have had a couple of allergic reactions to medications over the years, Lisinopril being one of them which i was taking for about 5 years, then prescribed a lower dose to be taken overnight. That one was the cause, I ended up with anaphylaxis and in hospital for 2 days. The reason I was told wasn't the medication but the 'fillers' they use in the tablets to bulk them out.

I often get similar reactions if my tablets are changed to a different brand. It could be a filler that's used or a colouring or a preservative. Talk to your GP. My chemist does his best to give me only specific brands of meds. It's very common for people to react badly to the generic drugs. I just had an awful time when my named/branded painkiller was out of stock and I couldn't take any of the alternatives. My GP names a specific brand on my prescription although when I was in hospital they still gave me the wrong one. Also double check that they've actually given you the correct tablets and dose.

Any kind of chest pain especially with breathlessness needs an urgent gp appointment just to be on the safe side.

The package insert has a list of all the ingredients of the medicine. If you still have the insert for the previous brand (or can look it up online), you should be able to compare to the current one and work out if there's something possibly causing your reaction. Lactose (milk sugar) is a very common ingredient of tablets and capsules & could be the culprit. Otherwise, as others have said, see your GP. Good luck. Hope you get to the bottom of it.
