After a heart attack and 4 stents it took me 18 months to regain the wgt I suddenly lost.I think alot of it was the shock and stress of it.One Dr told me that after considerable trauma the body resets itself and therefore takes a long time regain what may be a new normal for that person.I did try water therapy at the local pool for which you can be referred by GP.Hope this helps.

Ask your GP to refer you to a dietician. You will get there. It is still early days for you only 6 weeks after sugery. Your body is working hard to recover and burning more calories than you eat. Have you increased your carbs? Jacket potatoes are very high as well as the usual rice and pasta. Isn't it funny how our bodies work in different ways. I don't eat a lot and I can't lose weight. Good luck, Susie.

Dear You,

First I am really pleased that your operation went ok and that you are at home recovering .

As Heartifact has recommended there are food supplements { shakes } available on prescription from your Dr, use can use Slimfast but don't have instead of a meal have it with one.

When I was Hiking hard I used to use dried meals that were packed with calories , vitamins and minerals and were very tasty.

But on the whole once your body settles from the shock it will begin to build itself as long as you feed it enough calories and protein.

Mention it to your Drs surgery , They may have a dietitian attached to it.

Take care and well done again for getting though this, now its time to get on with your amazing life.

Thanks to you all. I used to have milk supplement drinks prior to surgery as I was always on the run. They are fairly high in vitamin K so not recommended with Warfarin. I thought it was the shock and all the calories going into building bones and repairing tissue. I am not a very patient person and it isn't great for my confidence to be so skinny but we'll get there.

Yes you will get there without a doubt, try and think " Slim " not skinny, take care

I'm 6'4". Before my heart surgery in July I was 85kg. When I came out of hospital (well after I'd shed the 10kg of excess fluid😳) I was 78kg. It's now 10 months since then and I'm still only 80kg. I look on it as a bonus being able to eat generously and not put on too much weight. Not sure if it's all the pills or what, but I wouldn't sweat it. Only issue I really have is how slow it is to get your strength/muscle tone back

I think you are looking for too much too soon. My hubby after a triple bypass lost well over a stone in weight. It took many many months to regain some of the weight, and even then he lost body condition. He was always big, not fat but broad across the shoulders and chest. He is 72 so maybe it’s not surprising.

I just tell him, be happy you are here at all. Kind of works 😁

It will be 12 months in a couple of weeks since my quadruple bypass and heart attacks. I lost 2 stone and now weigh around 8.5stone or 55kg, I was concerned as nothing has gone back on but my surgeon said it’s very normal and I may never regain the weight. It’s a massive shock to the body and system. My wife thinks my body looks terrible now and really boney but at the same time she doesn’t mind because I’m still here and I shouldn’t be👍
