I'm 33 years of age, I vape, I'm overweight but quite active. I had dull chest pains a couple of weeks ago with shooting pains. I went to hospital and I've had 3 ECG's which show t wave inversion on leads V3, V4, V5, V6.
I had a CT angiogram Tuesday and am waiting for results, I also have echo booked for the 6th June.
I feel like I've been sort of left in the dark as to what this could mean and obviously have googled the T wave inversion and it doesn't look great.
Does anyone know if T wave inversion in those leads could ever just be normal?
Thanks in advance 🙂

Yes completely understandable. I am quite active, try to exercise, have a 2 year old and work full time constantly running aroun. so it's more the diet side as prone to just snacking a lot.
I have already started trying to make changes whilst waiting for the results. Such an anxious time. Thank you again for taking the time to reply
I can understand you’re worried about your ECG results. It’s always concerning when we get results that we don’t understand properly as I’ve been in that situation before, and I presume a lot of others have too.
As already explained, no one on here is qualified to interpret or expand further on your ECG however, I just wanted to add that all your ECGs were conducted at a hospital setting and if you were in any immediate danger, it is very unlikely that they would have discharged you.
In the meantime, please concentrate on what you can control which is your diet, and slowly reducing your vaping. My brother used to vape quite a few years back however; has completely stopped now. Once you stop, you’ll realise you don’t actually need it and that it is a pretty pointless activity/hobby/habit - whichever you want to call it.
Thank you, again do appreciate the time taken to respond. Completely agree and in a way it has triggered me in to wanting to change. Almost shocked me as I've been living unhealthily and you always think it won't be you. Will be changing things in my life and trying my hardest to give up vaping because I really don't want to not be around for my son.
Hi Brookie, I sympathise entirely with your feelings of being left in the dark and worry; they are completely natural reactions given your situation. Take comfort that you are having/had tests to explore further from your ECG and that you will be passed to the most appropriate care to help you move forward.
Also, in my experience, Dr Google is not the best place to be looking for answers - oftentimes the potential of what could be (worst case scenarios) don’t come to fruition and the best place to seek advice is from the experts at a medical appointment. I know it’s hard playing the waiting game but it’s better getting accurate information firsthand than trying to troubleshoot whilst blind.
Be kind to yourself, focus on the positives (like wanting to make better choices now) and set small, achievable and realistic goals - you’ll get there!
Little things like switching from a packet of crisps to the same size bag of popcorn can make a HUGE difference!
Good luck and keep us posted with how you’re getting on 🙂
100% agree, so hard to stay away from Google when it is so accessible but the fact there are numerous diagnosis is helping somewhat as I know I can't be sure on what it may be so just need to wait for those results.
My T wave has been negative for many years and it is normal for me.Sometimes it goes flat but mostly negative on all leads. The cardiologist was not concerned when I asked about it on the day of my ablation.
I have been vaping for 11 years and have no intention of stopping.
Well that has given me some comfort knowing that it can just be there and not necessarily mean anything serious. Thank you
Dear BROOKIEIE22
A warm welcome to you, I hope that the forum will lend to you the same amount of its support and information as it has me and many others.
First I am sorry that you are worried over your recent results of your ECG but well done in taking the interest to see that there is something going on with the readings.
You are progressing on to other tests that will hopefully shed more light on those findings and what came be done about them.
You are incredibly brave to state about your weight problems and your vaping, it lends you to being attached for that and your original question getting swamped, with silly { rude } information that you already know about losing weight and giving up vaping.
Both are your choice and like we cannot interpret your ECG results for fear of being reported no-one can say that your weight or vaping has caused, added to or will hinder your recovery from your heart problems, no-one .
You have a two year old and work full time, that to me means so much more than you being pulled up about your level of fitness /snacking habits etc.
I think that you are an incredible person and I hope that when you have more results/worries that we can be a help to you and not be judgemental.
You are not alone, many of us on here needed { and still do } the help that your asking for.
Thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful reply. Its made me smile this morning. Appreciate you taking the time out.
Yes as you say I am very aware of the changes I need to make in my life to assist with my health and believe this was probably the wake up call I needed.
Very easy to abandon yourself when life takes over but need to make a conscious effort to change that.
It's very nice to have found a community to be able to discuss it with who can understand somewhat how it feels to be in the situation.
I use zero nicotine and zero flavour and only use the device as a prop.
Nevertheless, the USA research has an inherent fault by not stating that e-cig users are normally anxious and use it as a pacifier. E -cigs themselves do not cause anxiety.
E-cig users are mostly long term ex tobacco users and are likely to already have damaged genes so comparing them to non smokers for cancer and other carcinogenic diseases is inaccurate.
Hi brookie22 any update on your test results. I too have t wave inversions in leads v3-v6. Had a follow up echo and was told my heart is normal in size and pumping normal. My cardioligist wasnt worried
Hi Dan, completely forgot to update the page. I had both CT angiogram and echo and when I finally got the results it said I had a very tiny bit of calcium but that it wouldn't need any intervention and could be dealt with by lifestyle change. I got the result and was discharged from the cardiologist by a letter so they weren't even concerned enough to speak to me face to face. It was almost a benign reading and nothing to be concerned about.
Obviously I can't say yours is the same but hopefully that gives you some reassurance.
Hello, BROOKIE22This is my first time on a forum, I read a little about your health journey and I find myself in one of your situations concerning t waves and everything that follows with it, so I was in the emergency room for shortness of breath and difficulty breathing with sometimes noises when I breathe, I think it's wheezing and unusual fatigue and cramps all over the left side, I did blood tests and an MRI of the neck and head which showed nothing and I had two ECGs and there they told me that I had negative t waves in D2 D3 and AVF and they told me that I can go home, without explanation or anything else and there I don't understand what that means, since I've never heard of it, I'm not followed by a cardiologist either, and I'm worried and I would like to know how it went for you, concerning these t waves D2 D3 AVF and what does your cardiologist say about these T waves and what follows them, and how long have you had them? Thanks and I look forward to your answers, Best regards,
Contact one of the Cardiac Nurses at The British Heart Foundation on here. They are wonderful. I contacted one a couple of weeks ago, she was extremely helpful and explained everything that was listed on my discharge letter from the hospital in great detail. It really put my mind at rest, and I wouldn't hesitate to use their service again. They will answer any of your questions and concerns. Good luck.
