Bruising

Third post in 3 days. Sorry new to all this! How much bruising do you think is acceptable while on ticagrelor ? I had extensive bruising after angioplasty 4 weeks ago which has cleared up nicely, but random small bruises now appearing daily without any apparent cause.

Hi

Bruising while taking Ticagrelor is very common, I believe. I was taking this med for a year after my stent, and I only had to brush against something and a bruise would result. Sometimes, I looked like I had been in a wrestling match! My doctor said it was a good sign that the meds were working well, so I stopped worrying about them. As soon as I stopped the Tic, the bruising went away.

Dear You,

It is a very common side effect with this drug, when I was on it it looked like I had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.

But as others have said it is also a visual proof that the medication is doing its job.

Take care

Hello :-)

This is one of the side effects with this med but if and when you are told you can come of them you no longer get bruisers like you are but a small price to pay knowing they are keeping your blood nice and thin so as to pump round your heart

My Husband just once stroked my foot ever so gently when I was on them and it went black in a few seconds so you will get bruisers without even knowing you have slightly caught yourself

Hope you feel reassured to know most of us have had this happen to :-) x

I had massive black bruises after my stent on ticagrelor and wondered why I'd got them. Must admit they freaked me out a bit They changed them to clopidogrel and although I got bruising it was nothing compared to ticagrelor.

I had non-stop bruises whilst on ticagrelor, Heartmum56 , and they would appear for what seemed like no reason at all.

I was on ticagrelor for two days before I had my angiogram, and the bruising from the procedure looked like someone had taken a hammer to my arm from wrist to elbow! That took about a fortnight to disappear.

Luckily I was only on the medication for three months, and a couple of weeks after that, the bruising stopped.

I've never been prescribed ticagrelor, Heartmum, but was given Clopidogrel (another blood thinner) after a HA & bypass. The bruises I had for the first few weeks taking it were shocking, the slightest wee bump and I was black & blue. It did settle down though once I'd been taking it for a while. Carol

I too get terrible bruising, particularly from the elbow to my wrists and this happens in bed when turning over and are called pressure bruises. I have had to buy long sleeve tops for the summer months as I had a horrible reaction from a stranger I was talking to who saw my bruises and stepped back from me with alarm all over her face. Embarrassing for me.

Hi.I was on ticagrlor for 12 months after heart attack and stent and some of the bruises were spectacular even when i didnt know what i'd done to get them! Even scratching an itch would cause a big black bruise.

The best way to look at it is at least you know its doing its job.

Good luck. Jules xx

bruising is quite common with Ticagrelor and will go away once you can stop taking them. Seems a long way away at the moment I guess, but time will pass. I also suffered with nose bleeds which eventually led to a trip to A&E. I had the same issue with Prasugrel (a similar anti platelet) and go reduced dose to keep the nose bleeds at bay. They stopped when I stopped the course of Prasugrel (18 months)

This is all very reassuring. I only have to look at my arms (or legs or chest etc etc) and I get bruises. So it’s good to know it’s the medicine doing its job! I hope you can get used to it, Heartmum56!!

I agree with the other comments. I had bruises , large multicolour ones, in places I had no idea how I could have bumped. Naturally clumsy, I looked like an attack victim. It was easiest just to cover up for the time I was taking it. Hope you feel reassured.

Thanks all. I do feel reassured. This is one side effect I can tick off my worry list. Now to try and get my beta blocker and statin side effects sorted...

I had bruising for all the 12 months on the drug. However saying this I have always bruised easily.

I was black and blue every day while on tricagalor even turning over in bed. But when I finished my years course the bruising stopped virtually overnight

Bruising is very common! Also be extra careful when shaving - apply a LOT of pressure if you nick yourself.

I was covered in bruises the whole time I was on it and I often didn't remember banging myself. It stopped when I came off it.
