Morning all Hope you're looking forward to the long weekend
since HA and stents last year I have been on the following drug regime
Ticagrelor (90mg twice daily)
Bisoprolol (2.5mg)
Candersatan (8mg)
Avorostatin (10mg)
and the ubiquitous aspirin
Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that I am getting a lot of bruising even if I just bump into something. my side looks as tho I've been attacked and given a severe beating
Ticagrelor is an anticoagulant for which bruising is a well known side effect. It is probably worth talking with your GP in case there is room for manoeuvre on dose or the use of a different drug.
All the time if I bump into anything my kids always say that'll be another bruise dad . I look like I've been beaten up at times . Though I happily live with a few bruises rather than the possible outcome of not taking the medication .
Unfortunately bruising is an effect of all the blood thinning drugs. After my angioplasty I had a large swelling on my wrist where the cuff was meant to stop the bleedi ng. The nurse squeezed the swelling down this forced the blood up my arm and a massive bruise ensued. This has just dissapeared after a month. The slightest knock now and I bruise.
After my HA, I left hospital on Ticagrelor, Aspirin, Bisoporol, Candersatan, and a Statin. I too had severe bruising but read up about Ticagrelor side effects.
Thank you. I read the British National Formulary its says Brusing is a major contra-indicator. Just surprised that it was some 6 months into regime that it started
Once I stopped taking Ticagrelor the bruising stopped
Absolutely! It is one of the things that surprised me most about my body post HA. I was so surprised that I ended up writing a blog post about it and even created a new name for them! 9daysinoldham.com/2018/05/0...
Thank you. Great blog. I was just surprised it happened after 6 months not earlier on
I had a heart attack 2 weeks ago and was put on this. I'm covered in black bruises even where, to my knowledge I haven't been bumped at all; upper back of my arm, inside lower leg etc. It's worrying me.
