HiJust wandering has anyone else been diagnosed with psvt?
Mine was diagnosed about 2 yrs ago and one of the triggers were if I had a glass of alcohol as well as too much spicy food and too much stress.
Touch wood! It now seems under control with bisoprolol and flecanide. I nvr drank a lot before hand so just didn't have a drink once I found it was a trigger. Now it's under control do you think I could have the odd glass as and when or would you not risk it? As I don't want to set it all off again and go to hospital for the dreaded adenosine. But if we had a work night out just to be sociable do you think one would set it off??

The only way to find out would be to try it. We all react differently to things like caffeine and alcohol (as well as medicines and food) so it's one of those super individual things.
In most cases, alcohol will raise the heart rate, so I guess it comes down to how the risks/benefits balance out for you personally.
Hi thanks for your reply. I would sooner go without haha as don't want to go through ll the episodes where I had to have adenosine. Just wandering if anyone had done it lol x
I stopped drinking for a while (needed to keep the HR down) and haven't felt like going back to how I used to drink... it's an odd thing as I had "hollow legs" before 😅
I found a few nice alcohol free alternatives for when I got fed up of soda and lime... there's nice low alcohol ciders and gins out there. Still haven't found a nice alcohol free wine though 😕
Lol. I wasn't a very big drinker just the occasional glass every now and again so it doesn't really bother me not drinking lol I just drink my apple juice lol. But like u I do look for non alcohol drinks just every once in a while n actually had alcohol free koppaberg earlier lol. Even tho some say alcohol free they actually aren't lol. The only thinkni used to drink was an occasional jd now my boys waft one under my nose n say smell this mum!! And my mouth waters haha. But yea I'm not bothered either way like I say just wandered if anyone else had tried lol x
Hi Dawny - I haven't drank for years myself so can't help with this one. My younger brother was diagnosed with AFib donkeys years ago and I know he can no longer drink red wine as it tends to quicken his heart rate and bring on an episode. He's quite annoyed about that - his stress buster after a hard week at work was always to spend Saturday in the kitchen cooking up a storm with a bottle of red to indulge in while doing it! Carol
He thought at first it might be because he'd mixed his drinks, Dawny, and had a can of beer one Saturday following by his usual red wine so he cut the beer out as a trial. Didn't work though so he tried the red wine on it's own the following week and it brought on an episode - he's cut it out completely now (he's very disappointed! 😂). He seems okay with a beer or shandy though. He's not a big drinker at all - it was just his wee treat on a Saturday afternoon once he'd done everything he has to do on a Saturday morning and he & his wife deliver the grandkids home who sometimes stay on a Friday night. That'll teach him! 😀
Hi! I wasn’t a big drinker but decided to stop after my LVSD diagnosis and being put on Ramipril/Bisoprolol/Aspirin/Atorvastatin. I have “found” Guinness0.0 (well hard to miss as it was in the centre of the TV during the 6 Nations!) Can’t say I miss alcohol. Thatchers Zero is nice and crisp for an alcohol free cider. Careful though, some of those zero versions of fruity ciders can be sickly sweet! Also switched to decaf coffee (again, can’t notice the difference!) I draw the line at decaf tea though! I have thought about trying a glass of red (I adore Port) but have managed to resist!
I don't drink tea or coffee. I'm very picky haha n think that stems from being forced to drink the tiny bottles of milk that we used to be given at school. It made me sick n they still made me drink it. I can still remember the taste n smell 45 yrs later haha.I did think about getting the guiness and trying with a splash of blackcurrant. I have tried the wines and not keen. I don't really drink lager. I occasionally get koppaberg alcohol free. Yet to find a alcohol free jd Daniel fire haha.
I wasn't a big drinker either, I too just used to have the occasional glass but would sooner have none at all if it's going to bring on episodes again
I gave up caffeine on my doc's advice and don't miss it very much. I have found that I can drink 2 light beers on occasion without any afib. I will say that I have lost a lot of my taste for alcohol, but I do miss it when I am at a party.
Hi Dawny1908I have psvt, and have been on bisoprolol 5mgs for 12years and haven't had an attack on it ( yayy!). I found that if I ate a big meal it triggered an attack, and being over- tired. I now drink a bottle of rose per week and am fine on that. Red wine is a definite trigger. I would say that a more expensive wine is probably safer, as less sulphites maybe. I'm not an expert though! Good luck 😉
