Hibiscus tea anyone?

DaleMarch4HA2023 profile image

Just over 6 weeks ago was my 'special' day followed by 3 'Chinese finger traps' being inserted into some 'hose pipes' inside my chest. As most of you have done... I went searching for dos and don'ts. So alcohol free, low fat, replaced sugar with birch tree sugar (excellent I must say!) but... then I got onto teas.

I soon found green tea is a positive supplement to have... although I find it's taste not my well... er... cup of tea.

I then started seeing research and information about hibiscus tea.

It claims to lower BP (there are warnings to consult Dr. if you are on BP meds), relaxes and widens blood vessels, full of antioxidants and more powerful than penicillin. It tastes like a fruity, berry tea. Not too bitter, but you can of course sweeten it. I use a brand on Amazon Natur Boutique from London. As it was reasonable at under £4 and organic. I brew for 4 minutes to get a cup that could be mistaken for blood or beetroot juice!

I find it helps me relax and sleep better.

I only drink one a night.. so I don't really see a massive impact on BP and didn't therefore feel the need to call my Dr.

Thought I'd share this with you and see I'd anyone else drank this.. or had any other recommendations?

I find I don't get pains or flutters in my chest afterwards too.. so either it does do something inside.. or it's psychological! Placebo!?

Anyway.. I leave my hibiscus 🌺 post for reaction. Best wishes all. Dale.

Dear Dale

Thanks for the invite to your new tea drinking habits.

I personally feel that tea is the devils drink { but then we had it with sterilised milk } but must admit the sound of Hibiscus caught my attention .

But personally I have been warned off all herbal teas by my Heart Nurse, but that is me and all our journeys are different .

Good luck with it all but I would give your dispensing pharmacist a quick call to see if its ok for you on your other medication.

Hope my reply is not to much of a downer to you as believe me you are doing fantastically .

Take care

I think this is Egyptian red tea or Karkade. It’s the drink of the pharaohs and very pleasant. I drank it a lot on holiday many years ago because a lot of shop keepers/stall holders would offer it to customers when haggling over sales. I think I’ve read it has antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory properties so maybe similar to cranberry juice, (they certainly share the same brilliant red colour). I have not heard of the other benefits you mention.

Ah, interesting about Egypt. I've certainly drank a pharoh amount of it over the last few weeks!!! I've checked today.. and it is safe with my meds and could do 'some good'. Worse case.. it is a fruity drink that helps to keep me hydrated!

I was given a gift of some berry tea the other day.. in the box it says.. shouldnt drink with high blood pressure! Didn't explain why though!

So I'm sticking with hibiscus!
