A number of people have said via posting or messaging that they would like another virtual event so I propose an "End of Summer" afternoon tea next Monday week, 28 August, with the usual sparkling wine, Bucks Fizz, gin (who said that?), jam over cream and cream over jam scones, etc.

Please could you reply if interested as I don't wasn't to be on my lonesome... :(

I will kick off the thread at 2 :00 pm on Monday...

I would love to join you but I’m away with my family on holiday and I feel it would be a bit antisocial whilst we’re at Butlins.

I hope it’s another roaring success though and please have something fizzy for me 🥂

Best wishes

I am disturbed that this heathen Cornish idea of cream over jam is being promoted here.

The cream is a spread, like butter. When people go to a hotel and have their breakfast do they put jam on their toast first then spread the butter over the top? Of course not, you would be asked to leave!

Now, behave yourselves at the party and prepare the scones properly, with the spread-the cream-at the bottom and the jam on top.

I tried it the Devon way today, I didn't like it, Cornish all the way

Keep the scones open & do Cornish on one half & Devon the other = that way nobody gets annoyed! 😀

To settle this nonsense I am splitting the virtual room in two. One half the Cornish way, the other half the Devonian way! Sorted! 🤣🤣🤣

I got a notification you had posted Michael so decided to log in. Yes, I will be there as I don't want to join the hordes in traffic jams or in the shops! And it doesn't rain in the virtual world!

Yes, I’ll do my best to be here! I’ll bring London scones - BUTTER first, then jam, then cream, because you can’t spread cream on butter. I’ll let others bring gin. Can’t stand the stuff myself. *cough*

BUTTER as well as cream? You will kill everyone at the party. I might have to get the virtual police to raid it.

Ooh yes please. Could it be a champagne Afternoon Tea please as its my sisters birthday & she'd like to come too please? I'll make some cucumber sarnies, as I know we're all watching our waistlines! Maybe some mini quiches too if I can dig out & dust off the recipe! I'll order the 🥂 🍾 now !

Hi all,

Well what can I say, yes I would love to come to the party!! Thanks for the invite Sorry to hear the plans for scones!! Butter is optional but as a Cornish A Fibber, it is a must to put jam on first then cream, you can spread cream over jam but difficult to spread jam over cream!! Just to confuse 🤣🤣 anyway I’ll put some Cornish pasties on the table, they’re lush 🤣🤣, looking forward to it 🧺🧺

See my comment above and please post a picture of you when next at a hotel putting jam on the breakfast toast first then spreading the butter afterwards. No excuses. You don't spread jam over cream its dolloped on

Hi, MichaelJH,

I am definitely interested in attending this tea event! Could you please specify the time? I am in US and have to figure out time differences so that I am not fashionably late. 😊

Usually 2pm British Summer Time, but keep an eye out for Michael's posts to confirm.

I’d like to join. Do you do this on Zoom? And what time please? I’ll have to ask my son to sort it for me! I’m having a scones spread with jam then cream on the top! 😋

It's not usually a zoom, just a thread in here where we all join in a chat, 😊

Michael will start a post at 2pm (but check this time beforehand), and we all chat as we're doing here. But all at the same time. Especially after a couple of glasses of virtual gin :)

Justooked on the long range 20% chance of rain on Monday then wet for the rest of the week. Sounds like my school holidays of long ago! :(

Did offer to bring a chocolate cake on Monday, but completely forgot I always get my sprouts on ready for Christmas on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Lezzers might like chocolate dipped sprouts!

All ready for tomorrow. I have got a few bottles of a very drinkable dry rose and am defrosting some Hot X buns to avoid the looming jam or cream first battle! :)

Just a reminder things kick off at 2:00 tomorrow. I have had a busy week with five appointments. One was a repeat as I waited all day for a district nurse who never arrived. Four appointments next week but they let me have Monday off. One Patient Transport staff member quipped I should have a polo shirt that says "NHS - Patient".
