Hi everyone

Is anyone on here waiting for an agiogram? if so how long have you been waiting?

I have been added to the list. I have no idea how long the list is, so am wondering what the average wait is. Thanks

All testing waiting lists vary from area to area throughout the uk.Best to ring the appropriate dept at your hospital and ask what their waiting times are. Plus put yourself on their cancellation list so when someone drops out you can be available to fill the gap.It is a very successful way to be seen sooner.

Pre what we dare not mention it was 4 months. I decided to go privately. After seeing the consultant a couple of days later I had the angiogram the following. The consultant also changed my meds which made a huge difference to my symptoms. However I couldn't afford the quadruple bypass and has it nearly a year later!

Hi,

Hi think it depends on your hospital trust and their waiting list, but mine was quick, about 2 months. But I did ring up about cancellations. If you are able to see your consultant privately, then that would be your best option.

It will depend on how urgent it is and how long the local waiting list is

About a year ago I was told by the cardiologist (who eventually carried out my angiogram) that the wait was about 8 weeks. It turned out to be six months. But when I did get seen to it was like a production line of comings and goings in the angio suite. I think any wait for anything in the NHS is dependant on where you are, what you are waiting for, and whether you are classed as urgent or routine.

I’ve waited about six months and it was cancelled because of the junior doctors strike. Rescheduled for the 4th May, all being well.

Hi Blockedpipes,

I’m 63 and live in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the U.K. I had my CT angiogram as part of my NHS treatment at the Freeman Hospital following a wait of 6 months. I saw the cardiologist in July 2022 and had the CT angiogram in January 2023. I was told that I have no significant coronary artery disease. I’m not sure how much it would cost to have it done privately but you could make some enquiries if you’re concerned about the wait. Also, as other respondents have suggested, you could ask to be put on the cancellation list, which could reduce your wait. I had the test done in advance of surgery to repair a leak in my mitral valve. Best of luck with your treatment.

I had no idea how long I would have to wait so phoned and asked, one person said; when we have an appointment we will let you know, not vey helpfull. I phoned a week later and got a nice lady on the phone so this time I asked how long the waiting list was, she said 12 weeks, then had a look to see how far up the list I was, so I knew how much longer it was.

Hi there,

My situation was slightly different as I was in hospital unexpectedly at the time requiring one, so I was 5 days. When I discussed potentially private with the cardiologist he said you’re probably best waiting tight on the NHS as they can’t magically give you one privately.
