Wait time for angiogram

Anyone any idea of the current wait for an angiogram? After an overnight hospitalization and an angina diagnosis two weeks ago, my discharge note said referred for angiogram, date to be given.

In view of Covid I tried to find somewhere to have one done privately but nowhere near me are currently offering them. Prior tonCovid my neighbour waited over 12 months for hers and eventually was calked due to a cancellation at a few hours notice.

My GP is not concerned saying there is. No need for immediate concern but he has only got the same discharge information I have. There is a private hospital 20 miles away that can offer me a CT angiogram but I would need a consultants referral first

I had a telephone appointment with a cardiologist about a month ago. She said as I have a narrowing in Lad, picked up on angio echo, she would put me on the list for a stent. But said it wouldn’t happen till at least Jan/Feb with all the Covid problems.... and as I’m symptom free at present she didn’t feel that I have a high risk at present, but that could change in a year or two.

Today I have received a letter for pre-op on 16th December and angiogram & stent on the 18th December! . ..I suppose that I should be pleased that I have an appointment so quickly....but now the nerves are kicking in!

I had been referred to chest pain clinic at my local hospital for chest pains and then from that for further angiogram as I gradually seem to be getting much worse with regards to breathlessness etc I started to chase my gp for action and she gave me details of secretary of the cariologist in local hospital and I began chasing for dates as same doctor worked in private sector (as much as i didn't wish to have to go down the private route) eventually got rhrough to see how to go private and turns out hie private work was carried out & paid for within an nhs facility, kept chasing for dates and as it rutned out luckily for me I was able to get a cancellation as i was admitted directly from my angiogram and operated (quad bypass) within 2 weeks "such was the seriousness of the desease within my heart. My advice is whilst trying not to worry too much just keep chasing your gp listen to your own body for energy levels/tiredness, breathlessness but keep chasing. hope all goes well for you.

I waited from february to september for mine. Similar story to yours. Just got my appointment for a imaging stress scan. Still haven't seen a cardiologist for more than 2 minutes in passing and my appointment to see him this month (which was given to me in February ) was cancelled in October. I think it all depends on where you live. The post code lottery. A neighbouring borough to mine appears much quicker and on the ball. Seriously considering moving! 😀

Knowing the wait for an angiogram at my local hospital was 12 months plus for an angiogram, their cardio Cath lab told me of a consultant who did it privately at that hospital. I phoned his secretary over 2 weeks ago and was given a price. She then contacted me again last week to offer either 24/12 or 31/12. I accepted the former and was told the hospital would send me all the details. As I hadn’t received anything after nearly a week, I phoned the hospital direct who said they knew nothing about it as a team had to be arranged etc. and private patients were seen before 8 a.m. they said they would look into it. Contacting the consultants secretary again I was told it was in hand and the paperwork would be with me by the 18th. Today I got a phone call from the hospital cath lab unit saying it couldn't be done on either 24th or 31st . as there were no staff available and couldn’t offer another date! Naturally I am extremely annoyed by the whole thing. There is nowhere else within 100 miles of home where I can get the procedure done. What a waste of resources with long waiting lists and units not being used!

I have managed to get my angiogram done today by self funding. I now need a stent so propose to do the same again as it is likely to be within the next month. I am using funds I usually have for my many holidays and have not taken any in the past year. I am relieved I only need a stent and grateful I have funds available as the consultant said they are having to cancel/postpone elective surgeries.
