I have recently beeb put on Ranexa to help with angina, which I was not aware I suffered from! The drug appears to have a side effect of possible kidney damage and I am mildly concerned as to how serious that might be.

you’ll see that kidney injury comes under rare or very rare.
If you have existing kidney issues, it would be hoped your doctor would have assessed the risk before prescribing.
are you experienced any side effects?
👍
No side effects of note except the constipation which can be dealt with quite easily. As to the kidney matter, it looks like monitoring by regular blood testing is the usual thing and acting upon the results
I've also been prescribed this recently and it has improved my quality of life in that I no longer get any spasms when walking in windy and/or cold conditions. I was called for a blood test by my surgery since going on the medication and all was fine.
Hi Tommo46. Above just about sums it up. I was put on it because of persistent angina and it has been pretty helpful. I also take Isosorbide Mononitrate (slow release). I still get angina - as far as I can tell related to my heart failure and a tendency to overdo things. But its helped a lot. Surgery do an annual blood test to check for all manner of possibilities - including kidney problems. Cardiologist says 375mgs a small dose (taken twice daily) and plenty of room to increase if matters get worse. He also commented that its a 'marmite drug' - some people simply do not get on with it. Hope Ranolazine helps you.
