Increase of Atorvastatin from 40mg to 80mg/day (after my 4 stents) has ALT at 73 U/L

Hi,

My first blood test 2 months after my stents shows my ALT at 73 U/L. The Atorvastatin was increased from 40mg to 80mg. The cholesterol numbers are in good shape.

Is the option to go back to 40m?

What are the other options?

Thank you for sharing your experiences always. It helps so much.

Post 4 stents I was moved to 40 mg highest dose rosuvastatin from 20 mg. My cholesterol is 2.1 LDL .8 and triglycerides.7 . But my cardiologist won't let me go back to 20mg her argument is first year they need to go hard on medication and drop after 12 months . So I felt it's a valid argument so I am stuck with 40mg.I think rosuvastatin highest dose is 40mg

Was your GP or cardiologist concerned? Saying that there are other statins that may affect on differently. Also there are other drugs available. You need to speak to the professionals as you may get some very biased views from the anti-statin brigade. One even posted they were toxic!

Thanks. I will definitely work with my physician on any changes in medicines. I am sure I am not the only one who is going through this and wanted to know other people's real experiences. Happy weekend

I realized the other change in medicine was to start Niacin 2000 gram daily. I found this study that it also increases ALT
