The hour and minute hands overlapped at midday. At what time do they next overlap? Assume a 12 hour display.

Now that is precise - I was going to say ‘about 5 past 1’. I argued with my children for years that it’s quicker to tell the time on an analogue clock-face than a digital one.

I thought that was you! Yes, my argument was that you just need a general impression of the time - usually.

Just after 1:05? Hubby won't let me play with his grandfather's clock to check. (It was a billiards prize.)

Doesn't it depend on the shape of the hands? You seem to be a person of many talents!

Just ‘clocked’ in to this conversation, but think I’ve run out of ‘time’ to add anything useful.

I’ll just ‘watch’ this space ….

When you say that you are a watchmaker, does that mean that you literally make new watches and/or does that mean that you are a skilled craftsman who repairs old watches such as pocketwatches?

I once hunted for months to find a person who could clean, repair, and also create a new winding key for an old, beautiful pocket watch that I bought at auction. The pocket watch had to be wound, but the key was missing. I also had a pendulum clock that was very old and needed to be cleaned and adjusted.

I finally found an older gentleman who had an excellent shop at his home filled with ticking, chiming clocks of all types. It was like heaven. 😆. He gave me a tour of his shop and equipment, and I was amazed, but it is difficult to find someone with those skill sets here.

Yes, no pun intended, time definitely is a factor in repairing/restoring old pocketwatches/clocks. The man who cleaned and repaired mine made it clear that I could leave it for repair only if I were willing to allow at least two weeks (or possibly more) in repair time. I was willing, and it took between 2-3 weeks. He did a lovely job, and I was quite pleased.

It seems to be a highly skilled area, and requires a lot of equipment and patience and attention to detail. On the other hand, he was surrounded by lots of ticking, tocking, bonging, and chiming. I loved it. And it was clear that he loved his work.

wow! You will never need to worry about becoming redundant. Lol. And you have that feeling that you have made people feel happy. Lovely work!

a clock face is whatever you want it to be 24 or 12 hours surely.Thirteen hundred hours was in use long before digital clocks were invented.

The general solution seems to be 1.05-2.10 getting bigger off the hour until 6oclock and then coming back in to exact alignment at 12oclock
