Did you contact the BHF nurses? They're probably the best people to speak to as you're obviously very concerned about your BNP level. See contact details below.
If you have any questions or concerns, and would like to speak with one of our cardiac nurses, please do contact our Heart Helpline team on 0300 330 3311 Mon-Fri 9-5pm or email hearthelpline@bhf.org.uk
I’m scared to
last time they were a bit blunt and factually different in there views to my cardio doctor so I dread to think what they will say amd I don’t need them adding worry to me
But your worrying anyway! I don't think anyone will be able to give you an definitive answer to your questions beyond what you've already been told, nobody in the group will have the necessary medical training. Have you asked your GP or cardiologist for advice? If I remember rightly I think you said you were gonna contact your cardiologist via the secretary for advice. Why not write all your questions down put them to the secretary & ask for the cardiologist to contact you so that you can talk it through with him/her.
I saw the cardio doctor Friday
Let me explain in July whilst in hospital 2350 November 180
Now I had a blood test 23/12 on the 30/12 I had a phone appointment with my GP regarding stopping Amiodarine nothing was mentioned about my blood test I thought maybe it wasn’t back so a week later I called for the results to be told nothing of interest apart from what the doctor told me in the 30/12 (which was stop Amiodarine on the cardio doctors advice )So I thought my test was fine
I saw the cardio doctor Friday just gone he never mentioned my high bNP or the new blood test results as they were ordered by the GP did he even have them ?
On Monday I collected my prescription and asked for a print out then I saw the marks 484 next to it was marked appointment with GP 30/12 to discuss
I called the GP yesterday who informed me do what tne cardio doctor suggests I said did he have these results Friday to be told they are not sure
Your BNP level of 484 is not particularly high which may be why they're not concerned about it & haven't mentioned it, it may have been slightly elevated as you had a chest infection at the time the blood was taken. As I've previously said my husband's BNP level went from 600 to 1000, nobody mentioned it to him because it wasn't something to be concerned about nor was there any follow up tests arranged. Amiodorone is prescribed to correct/prevent arrythimias, this will probably have nothing to do with your BNP level. My husband has just been in hospital after suffering a VT storm resulting in several instances of loss of consciousness, he didn't have his BNP level measured at all probably because theres no correlation. There may be many different reasons why your BNP level fluctuates, I would guess the reason for the recent test was just to keep an eye on it as it has previously been very high & your GP wouldn't know if the test results were available at your cardiologist appt. The only person who can put your mind at rest over why it's not been mentioned is your cardiologist. You're obviously very concerned about it so I would definitely contact your cardiologist, his/her secretary or at least the hospital cardiology dept for advice.
thank you
With your knowledge could I ask why all the charts I seem to find on google have BNP 100-400 a grey area over this 98 per cent heart failure ?
Regarding there maybe no concern it was clearly marked on the test result that appointment booked 30/12 suggest echo exam
I will contact as you have advised
My advice is to stop googling!! I can find just as many sites that will tell you it's not heart failure. As I said previously a raised BNP level can be due to several reasons, one of those being an infection which you did have at the time the last test was done. An elevated BNP is a marker for investigation, it's not a diagnosis of anything. You definitely need to ask your cardiologist, maybe he/she is already planning to re-test you at your next appt.
thanks
I had no infection that was in July not December
I will try to find the sites thst tell you it’s not heart failure as I’m yet to come across them if it’s raised to 400 plus
Thank you for your advice and help
When we were taking before you said you'd been coughing up white frothy phlegm but antibiotics helped with that?
that wasn’t me
I had pneumonia in July but not phlegm just breathing trouble
are you meaning BNP or NT PRO BNP ?.
I believe theres a difference.
My nt pro bnp was 6900 , now its 350.
Only bNP I believe from what the GP told me
How did you get yours down that’s really fantastic to get a drop like that
I had 100 bNP as the cut off 100-400 the grey area and pro cut off 125 ?
