What a difference a day makes

Yesterday I was thinking what on earth have I had done! But a day on and I feel pretty good considering what I have had done. If there’s one bit of advice I can give to anyone having this op,it’s if there’s any pain take the tablets you must keep on top of it. When I woke up in icu I dreamt I had watched the England game but I actually did watch it-Weird. Also had a conversation with my daughter in law but as far as I was concerned it was my son she also Mentioned Weird.

Nearly disconnected from everything now. I have just had shepherds pie carrots and peas, rice pudding and jam,it’s like being back at school.

I was talking to the nurse in icu and she told me about what it was like working in there during Covid. If I had the strength I would drag a couple of those moronic non believers and let them see the conditions these people worked in.

That’s rant over, going for a little walk now,I only need 9546 steps to hit my daily target.

Best wishes everyone,keep well.

Hi Carluke great to see you have come out the other side with sense of humor intact. Take care hope you recover soon.

Ruth

Glad to see that sense of humour is still there 😂

Yes. Good advice to yourself. Accept any pain relief given in these early stages. Your body has been though a lot and for hours! It needs to be pain free now to help recovery. Pain does not help recovery mentally or physically.

When I got home I was only on paracetamol 4 hourly but HAD to be 4 hourly for it to work . It did. I resorted to stronger medication on two occasions after that.

You are doing so well. Your mind will play tricks on you. It’s normal and yes, very weird!

Keep up the good work and rest, rest, walk and rest!!

Regards

❤️Maisie❤️

Well done, good to see your sense of humour is still intact. What is it with the NHS and shepherds pie carrots and peas!!! Just take it easy,, you're back on the other side😀

Apparently, it is easy to swallow with little need for chewing - which makes it less stressful for a recovering heart - alledgedly! 🤨

Yes I can understand that. It does just seem to make an appearance on "tonight's menu" so very often

Evening,

So pleased to read your post, everything you said brings back so many memories 😂 I remember saying I don’t neeed a pain killer and the nurse saying you don’t need one only because we keep you topped up 😂

Keep that sense of humour, it will stand you in good stead. Keep doing the breathing exercises that helps more than you know.

Best wishes Pauline

Well you are warned not to be a hero! Just take the pills. Great to hear you are doing so well - even if the catering staff conspire to make you think you are travelling back in time! Seriously - you sound as if you are doing great and its good to read your post. Keep walking - that 10k step goal will soon be achieved!

Wow ! I’m in awe of you. Your amazing positivity and upbeat comments put me to shame 🤪. And you still have time to think of others. Brilliant to hear you are keeping up with the steps targets 🤣. Talk about ‘weird memories and conversations !😱but at least you’ve got an excuse- unlike me ! Really uplifting to read your posts. Here’s to your new life chapter 🍺🍷🥃🍾 stay strong and wishing you a smooth road to full recovery. Pat

Glad to hear you’re on the mend, we’ll done 👍Be careful those weird conversations don’t continue like they have in my case.

For example. A package arrives at our door. I ask my wife what have we bought again?

My wife says "oh that’s something you agreed to us buying last week, don’t you remember?".

I say "no I don’t".

My wife says "oh that’s your medication again darling".

Bloody medication is costing me a fortune.

The really, really weird thing is that this medication is so selective, it only affects the conversations that has to do with my wife buying stuff 😳

I told the doctor about this and asked him to change my medication. He only laughed at me and told me to leave his surgery🤷‍♂️

Hope you continue on your road to recovery.

Best wishes,

You’re doing amazingly well and so early on - fantastic to read this. And yes completely agree - take the pain medication given. Sounds like it won’t be long before they’ll be thinking of discharging you at this rate.

All best wishes

Sarah

How good to hear from you. Somehow the thought of school dinner type food is vaguely comforting, maybe going back to a time when somebody else was in charge. Anyway pleased to hear you are eating well and keeping your positive spirit and also thinking about other people like the staff in IC U, but allow yourself the odd down moment should it occur (probably not). At this rate you are going to be a gold star patient!

Good for you to share this. We're all stuck in our own little worlds. It sounds as though you have a really positive attitude and that's more than half way to healing. Good luck with it all and oh how I agree with you about the medical staff on ICU. I'd like to take a few of the anti vaccers in there for an hour or two to volunteer (if this were possible).

Superb!!! My hubby was given morphine and codeine in the ICU despite me telling the docs he would react!! Several ant and bee swarms later (hallucinating!), he was given 2 paracetamol and never looked back!Sounds like the food isn't too bad so keep on eating, drinking and being merry!

Just a reminder about getting 'training' in case you sneeze or cough. The highlight of my hubby's experience was being able to pop to the loo and have a shower unaided.

On your way home remind whoever is driving you NOT to go over speed bumps and go down drain covers at speed!! I got 'tutted' at when driving home.

Good idea to have a nice pillow to shield your chest before you get your seatbelt on.

Keep posting when you can. You really cheer everyone up with your insane humour.

Love and gentle virtual hugs heading your way. Jan xxx

This forum is a great place to get help so if you're not sure about anything, just ask.

Enjoy the compression stockings/socks!! We had a ceremonial bonfire to burn the things when hubby didn't have to wear them anymore.

All the very best to you. Jan xxx
