Bisoprolol and Sleep.

Does anyone have issues with sleep when taking Bisoprolol? Been on it for 8 years since HA in 2015 and my sleep is not great, principally early morning waking. I know these beta blocker drugs can affect melatonin levels.

My question is, is there a ‘better’ beta blocker that doesn’t affect melatonin/sleep? If not, what are my alternatives, if any? I welcome any comments, thoughts or insights on this, thanks.

Hello :-)

I take Bisoprolol and I am not sure if it has an impact on my sleep as it was never very good anyway but I am finding I am going to bed so late and getting up early

If you think they are causing you a problem even though I get the feeling they are a favourite with the specialists to have us on there are different ones you can go on but you need to speak with your Doctor and see what they say :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

I’m not sure if they affect my exercise capacity.

I’m able to walk a reasonable distance without too much bother so don’t think they are an issue in that respect. Been on them for 8 yrs after HA.

Has the condition for which you are taking Bisoprolol affected your exercise routine? I find it harder to walk long distances, or take other forms of exercise, and this seems to affect my sleep.

hi. I had terrible insomnia for the first few months on bisoprolol. I’m on 10mg. I was then advised by the pharmacist to split the dose to see if that helped. I was taking 10mg in the morning but now I take 5mg in the morning and 5mg at night and it seems to have done the trick. I now sleep through the night but I can also sleep through half of the next day too! As much as I hate wasting the day, the insomnia was worse. Ask your gp or pharmacist about moving your meds around and see if that works. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, will definitely think about the strategy you mention. I am on a lower dose but just habituated to taking it in the morning.
