Can anyone give any advice on Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome?

Does the syndrome usually exist on its own without other heart problems, or does it exist in conjunction with other congenital heart defects? I’ve recently had an ECG that displayed a WPW pattern. What treatments have people had?

Hello, sorry no one has contacted you on this forum. I have no knowledge or experience of WPW. Perhaps try speaking to your GP / cardiologist or BHF nurses. I hope you get some answers.

The nhs website has information on wolf parkinson White syndrome. Worth a read.

Hi there. My husband has this condition. He had a procedure many years ago and has never had any symptoms since. He’s not here to ask him what it was but I imagine an ablation or pace-maker? You’ll probably know. Hope you get more advice and good luck.

Me again! Sorry forgot to say that condition exists on its own. His resting heart rate has been higher than normal all his life even since the procedure (between 80 and 90 I think)

Hi

I can’t give advice as I am not qualified, but here is my wife’s story …

My wife was diagnosed 40 odd years ago with WPW because she was suffering bad bouts of palpitations. She had no other heart issues but some of her extended family have suffered from other congenital heart conditions including one cousin who unfortunately died due to Marfan syndrome. It was later discovered that she has a rarer condition which is Lown–Ganong–Levine syndrome. As I understand it WPW is diagnosed due to specific information on an ECG and LGL ECG is very similar.

Her treatment was Atenalol but as the palpitations got worse she had an ablation to remove the pathway that caused the palpitations and has not suffered the same since. She continued with Atenalol until recently when she was moved on to Bisoprolol.

I hope this helps but speak to a cardiologist who will tell you more facts than this personal, anecdotal information, the other possibility is to call the BHF helpline as they may have wider information.

I was diagnosed with WPW and had an ablation 4 days ago. Having suffered from palpitations on and off for 40 years I am hoping this has done the trick. Although extremely worried the ablation was not as bad as I feared and came out of hospital the same day
