need reassurance

need some reassurance, my uncle is 24 hours post surgery. He had double bypass, valve repair and aneurysm repair. It went well and his stats are good, they said he’s not eating much but drinking. Is this normal ? He’s a fussy eater anyways,

but I have a tendency to worry and want someone to put my mind at rest. The nurse said they’ll try him tomorrow.

Hello :-)

I am so pleased to read your Uncle has had his operation and is doing well :-)

It is totally normal to be of your food after , I hardly ate much at all till I got home and even then it was quite a few weeks till my appetite started coming back

Also because of all the Anaesthetic we have been given things do not taste the same even drinks as well and that can put us of

But he is getting some fluids in him which is good :-)

Nothing to worry about look forward to him coming home soon :-) x

thank you for your reply. That puts my mind at rest. He’s drinking squash, just don’t want it to delay his recovery in anyway. They said the op went very well

Hello :-)

It will not affect his recovery in any way :-)

When he gets back on the ward if he is still of his food and because he is a fussy eater ask if you could take something in you know what he likes :-)

Good news they are saying his op went well , focus on that :-) x

Great to hear he is doing well. I didn’t eat for 5 days and if i managed to get anything down it soon came back up even fluids weren’t great but I did drink some. It took 5 days for me to loose the taste of anaesthetic out of my mouth. Things didn’t really start to improve till I got home.

Don’t worry he will be fine👍

Good morning Lydia 1. This is totally normal after such a major op. He,s been through a lot and won't feel very hungry, little and often helps. He'll feel much better when home as can have nourishing meals. Your taste takes a while to return, my husband was very worried about my appetite, even my Christmas Dinner, but it will return. Plain water and not too much squash. Good luck x

Fantastic news that your dear uncle has not only had his Op but is starting his recovery.

His taste will return when it wants to and as long as he takes his fluids { better plain water than to much quash } to flush out his system, then he will be fine.

He is very lucky to have such a sweet niece looking out for him

Take care and make sure that you look after your self as well as him

thank you. He is very special to me. He has mild learning difficulties and after I lost my own dad to cancer 10 years ago he became the person who was always there for me. He is eating drinking his squash now. I’m dropping a bag of food he likes up to him later.

Excellent news, send him our regards for a quick recovery and a big helping thank you hug to you.

Take care of each other

thank you. He’s in HDU, his blood pressure is fluctuating today. He’s eating more and video calling me a lot. Making jokes. Constantly worrying about him tho

I think 24 hours is a bit soon to be worrying about eating. As long as he's getting fluids into himself either through drinking or IV that should be fine. He has been through trememdous surgery and its bound to put you off your food. What you have to remember is that the body uses alot of energy after eating a meal to begin digestion. The body needs to use that energy to heal and repair. Give it time. Glad the surgery went well, take care and all the best.

That's normal after any surgery and hospital food is never the best. How you're supposed to recover on that rubbish I don't know. Whenever I've had surgery, I've got someone

to bring in a flask of Heinz tomato soup; my mum's childhood remedy for illness and about the only thing I could taste. I'm sure you could take in something your uncle might fancy.
