Beauty - laser treatments

Hi,

Following my HA and stent in May 21 I have lost 2 stone, with a few more pounds to go!

My son gets married next year and purely for vanity I am considering some laser facials which are supposed to plump up the skin and reduce fine lines, which are more prominent since the weight loss.

Now I am aware I’m lucky that my heart is functioning well with an adjusted life style and the meds, and this is very superficial in the scheme of things.

Has anyone else had these type of treatments with a heart condition, with no issues or reaction due to meds?

The therapist is also checking before she will take me as a client. I will check with my GP next week, when I have a routine appointment.

Just curious to see if any other hearties have safely undertaken this type of thing.

Thanks Debbie

Dear Grenfell37

What a great post and it can only help others know that some assembly of normality is possible.

Fantastic that you feel well enough to under go a little "touch up" { sure you don't need it } and I think that you are on the right path in asking your Dr and your therapist first, who by the way, sounds really switched on to be finding out for you without being a money grabber and just doing it, as some would.

Sorry I can't answer your question { in my case it would be like plastering a back of a bus ! } but wanted to wish you all the best and give my congratulations on not only your sons up coming wedding { very special person the mother of the groom is, make sure they know it } but also your amazing weight loss.

It is really important to hear how people are getting on with their lives during recovery,

Thank you so much for your story so far.

Take care.

Thank you for your kind comments. Like many in this group, I’ve had my dark moments, with fear of imminent reoccurring HA or even worse the grim reaper. Having something positive to focus on has improved my outlook and motivation. I’m only 61, with good prospects to live a bit longer, and hopefully see my son get married. Us hearties have to focus on the inside of the body, so it’s pure indulgence to invest on the outside. 😂😂Deb

Don’t blame you at all! I had some fillers before my AVR a while back and my surgeon did say he would be happy for me to have them again now. However I haven’t don’t that so can’t tell you how it goes. But I would say first time round I did get some bruising during healing (and I really didn’t have much done at all!) and being on aspirin now I expected that to be worse. Weddings are wonderful times - my son got married 3 months after my AVR and I glowed with pride and joy. Enjoy the day - whatever you decide you will be the proudest woman in the room and your family will hold you in awe. With very best wishes. Sue

Thank you that’s great feedback. Plus you also had a joyous wedding. I’m on aspirin so something to be mindful of. Thanks Deb

Well done you on the weight loss. I don't have any experience of laser treatment but would think it would be OK as long as you hav'n't had a device fitted. If you are on an anti coagulant it may be better to stop it for a short while in case of bruising, but be advised by your doctor or who is doing the treatment. I've just had a tooth extracted and had to stop the AC for 3 days but in the past only on the day. Good luck, congratulations on your son's wedding and let us know how you get on x

Thank you, thankfully just one stent, so there should be no interference. Many thanks Deb

As a Complementary Therapist of 25 years I understand where the professional beauty therapist is coming from. I did not practice beauty therapies but more clinical Reflexology and other similar type therapies, however, I did practice Magnetic therapy using strong magnets to relieve pain and aid healing, I do have proof it worked, on family and animals. The therapist will be looking at her insurance cover and you may well find she will not treat you because of it. I use the strong magnetic wand on myself and I’m ok. I can use it also for facials 😜 I also use it on my neck and shoulders to relieve pain, no heart issue.

I’m sorry if this disappoints but you could just have regular facials with may well be just as effective. Drink water, our skin needs water, the less hydrated you are, the worse the skin and everything thing else actually 💗🙏🏼

Ps I don’t have a pacemaker,

Thank you, what interesting feedback. I have considered just the normal facials, which if all else fails I will undertake. Great thanks Deb

Hello, it sounds as I've you're referring to a Caci facial, or similar, which is a non-invasive, laser toning treatment. I've had Caci treatments regularly for the past ten years. I have minor heart disease but not required surgery, so that may make a difference to your suitability.

I do know that my friend, who is also a regular Caci fan, was advised to stop when she suffered a TIA, but was ok to resume a few months later when her condition/medication etc was stable.

You could try contacting the system manufacturer ( eg Caci or whichever brand) and ask them. Globally it must be a fairly common question.

PS. If you do go ahead, have the initial course of 10. You will definitely see a difference and will shine at the wedding

Thank you, great advice plus you are right it is the carbon laser facial I wanted to have. I’ve got 11 months before the wedding so I should be able to get a few sessions in. Many thanks Deb

Hello Debbie. Firstly Congratulations on your Weight Loss and Upcoming Wedding! :). I am envious, I do admit, I have also asked about this but the Therapist wouldn't touch me because I am on Warfarin and have a Pacemaker! Nevertheless, I think this would 'lift' you up no end. No pun intended lol 😂 I really hope you can have whatever you want though. Best of Luck!

Hi, I suspect the fear of something going wrong from the therapists point of view will determine if she will take me as a client. As it is none invasive and I don’t have a pacemaker I think it will be ok. Many thanks Deb

Hi well done on your weightless not easy. I have a number of health issues but cardiac wise have sinus tachycardia and av block. 18 months ago I had a pacemaker fitted and was part way through laser hair removal treatment under arms (face and legs completed). Thought it was the end of treatment spoke to the physiologist who spoke to the manufacturers and they said it was fine. Took a copy of the email to the therapist she was OK with it. I take ivabradine and apixaban and other non cardiac medications. Treatment went fine no problems. Definitely as advised by others to get medical advice but I am glad I went ahead. Some might say I was vain but it is individual choice. Enjoy the wedding whatever you decide to do.
