I would like to join a support group or an exercise class/ keep fit class for people with heart problems in or around Eastbourne area.

Is there anything?

Check with your GP/local cardiology unit - there may be cardiac rehab centres nearby.

Probably best to ask your heart nurse at your hospital for advice. They should be able to help with what is available in your area. I know hospitals offer this service for people after they have had bypass surgery .More genersally i would guess it is up to asking the heart nurses for help and advice.

Thanks for replying. I’m sure I would feel less stressed if I had a group of people in similar circumstances to meet up occasionally. Ellen

Hello, not a lot to add to what some of the other hearties have said, only that my area was not able to provide anything so in the end I went out of my own area and contacted another NHS trust, the cardio department, They have been wonderful and I now go to a gym which is run by a charity which was set up to support people with Heart disease. I am in the midlands area. I should also mention it is a year since I had my bypass. The reason for mentioning this is that if nothing is offered in your area please do try other areas. Although for me it means driving half and hour each way I am very happy to do so. As you mentioned being with people who have shared experience is so helpful and reassuring. I wish you the very best of luck. Take care, Judi

I’m in a couple of Facebook groups that are a useful source of info and support. If you just search relevant words for your condition eg ‘aortic’ or ‘bypass’ or ‘Angina’ in the groups heading they pop up.

Like you i wanted to find my next stage of rehab and spoke to my local rehab team who told me about Healthwise. It's a GP or cardiac nurse referral scheme that assess and manages your cardiac rehab journey. As others have said, please speak to them about it.
