I've been on both Tamsulosin and Finasteride for years before having an aortic valve replacement and suffering from heart failure. For me, the meds helped a bit, but I still have the usual symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate. I live a mostly normal life with these symptoms and I really don't want to have a TURP (surgery). No problems with either medication. No side effects for me.
Yes,the TURP or the lazer surgery seem daunting to me dont fancy it even though ive read its ok .
Cheers mate.
Anyone with BPH who has been prescribed Tamsulosin is already on the slow downward spiral of increased problems with 'passing water'. Whilst Tamsulosin helps it is not a cure. Sooner or later things will have got to the point where you likely need a TURP. Do not put it off. By doing so you may make matters worse such as an enlarged bladder, caused by urinary retention which may never recover when a TURP becomes inevitable. Anyway I have had two TURPs, the second within a year of the first because the first was not sufficient, and frankly they are not as bad as they sound although there are some long term issues that you may have to deal with. But none that significantly affect your quality of life.
