Dear Lindyloo59

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your medication, It is VERY unwise to stop them by yourself { especially the statin } and its easy to replace the statin with another that don't have the same side effects.

Just because its Bank Holiday { and a strike } doesn't mean that there is no help for you.

Take care

I stopped taking them myself. My omprezole was just a pill in pocket. I wanted to rule out which one was causing problem as I have had bad reports about omprezole. My dr suggested stress anxiety or migraine related as I was getting vision problems too but have had eyes checked no problems with them at all. Im feeling unwell most of the time its affecting my daily life and had no health problems up until taking statins apart from odd migraine but it wasnt debilitating. I just wonder if it could be hormone related Im clutching at straws 😬

Hello :-)

Side effects from meds are the worse and I seem to be one of those people that attract them mainly my stomach gets attacked but I suffer with IBS so that does not help any

I am a bit worried you have stopped them without talking to your Doctor first even when I am getting dreadful side effects I always let them know and make sure it is ok to stop whatever is causing it

It could be hormones we do clutch at straws and that is natural to do so

I take Atorvastatin they started me on 80mg but I could not tolerate it as I got aches everywhere took me down to 40mg and so far I am ok maybe a little aching but nothing I cannot cope with

I tried omeprazole but they gave me headaches so I take a low dose of Lanzopral I think it is called again this seems to suit me better but as said we are all different

I hope you will let us know how you get on with your scan and see if after the Holidays you can get to speak to the Doctor about your meds they may try something else or at least say they are not concerned you do are not taking them :-) x

Hi lindyloo59

yes I had similar reactions to both these meds. I tried various other statins which were equally unacceptable, so I now keep my cholesterol in check just by dieting.

My cardiologist trialled me on other "prazoles" with no success, untill at last I was prescribed pantoprazole which I did find tolerable. I now take it as a "pill in pocket", and am happy to proceed on this basis.

Hi, I tried 4 different statins and felt awful on each. Muscle aches, brain fog, lethargy. Don’t take them now. Raised CK levels to danger point. Atorvastatin is cheapest, so ask for another, to see if you tolerate it better. Liz

I’m taking Atorvastatin and have the symptoms you have mentioned, don’t know about my CK levels. I have a phone appointment with my GP this morning when I will ask to change to a different statin and hope for the best. I am hardly able to walk with the pain and have been quite concerned at the brain fog.

Yes I’ll let you know. I’m taking 80mg a day and have been for about 8 weeks. Symptoms are increasing day by day.

I have been on Atorvastatin 20mg for 3 weeks now, I am getting left leg cramps mainly thigh, has anyone else experienced the same, and what alternatives are there to not have the cramps, switch to a different statin?

Thank you

HiIt's more than likely side affects from statins I get same! Go in and see your gp/cardiologist and makesure they report it on your gp medical records. As more people who report side affects the better for statins side affects are awful! Tell your gp, alls they may suggest is changing statin to another.

I found Ubiquinol Coq-10 300mg or higher helps with atorvastatin I'm on, unfortunately, doctors don't prescribe this as its a supplement not a prescription drug. Costs about £1 per supp.

Good luck!!!

Thank you for the reply, have ceased and will wait for the statins to release me from the side effects….I will start a different statin and see how I get on with those.

Best

Hi

Speak to your gp/cardiologist and makesure they record it on your medical record for future!

I had same problem when started me on atorvastatin in 2018 and I found out that there's an interaction with both these medications. Went to my gp and told them I can't take this with this! Ask them to prescribe a different pill other than omeprazole as they interact only moderate but still.

I hope I got the name right Omeprazole?! As I checked on a drug interaction website I always use very useful. Go to your gp anyway and say you can't take Omeprazole with statin as they interact can they prescribe something else. Anyway good luck hope this info helps and I pasted website link I always use to check drug interaction.

drugs.com/interactions-chec...

Copy and paste into browser. Good luck!

Sorry so long! But I posted just before to someone having bad aches and pains from taking atorvastatin, which I am also on and other B.P meds. Basically I just started taking Ubiquinol Coq10 300mg, which is a supplement that should be taken if on atorvastatin. U asked my gp and cardiologist why don't you prescribe this with atorvastatin couldn't get an answer! Thought as much, done some research on this and found as it's a supplement not a prescription drug they won't, can't prescribe even though they should.

It comes in gel capsules and costs about £1 per supplement. Especially for anyone taking statins doctors and cardiologists should be recommending Ubiquinol coq 10 300mg or higher! Found out the hard way. Of you do try it remember it takes about 4 weeks + for supplements or meds to kick in so give it a chance! Also, if you take it make sure you take with fatty food (good fats)! Like avacado other good fatty foods as it needs good fats to absorb, therefore to do its properly.

Good luck all the best with your scan try not to worry happened to me during getting diagnoses' in 2018 was seeing 3 diff specialist had loads of tests and eventually got diagnosed with mild LAD stenosis and fibromyalgia, high B.P and cholesterol, Basically my main left artery is 30% blocked. So on meds for both and major side affects from all are pretty bad!

Good luck again!

I have stopped taking the statins, and will wait for the side effects to stop before moving onto next set of statins, I currently do not have a heart condition, the GP placed me on statins as a precaution until my blood cholesterol is under control.

Thank you for the reply.

Could anyone tell me how long it takes for the side effects from Atorvastatin to go away please? My doctor told me to stop them almost a month ago but I'm still getting the muscle pain in my legs. To be honest I'm starting to wonder if it's sciatica and nothing to do with the statin. The pain is in the left leg, mostly the outside of the calf but also back of thigh and sometimes hip.
