Hi all, I had open-heart surgery two years ago and, for quite a while now, when I wake in the morning, my left shoulder and upper arm are very painful. The right too but not nearly so bad. The pain mostly disappears fairly soon after I get up and move around. I've been told that left side arm and shoulder pain can indicate a heart problem which is obviously a worry. If it was a symptom of heart trouble could it only be activated when lying down at night or would a heart complication cause continuous pain throughout the day? Any ideas?

Are your guts OK?
It can indicate pancreas and possibly gall bladder problems. If you have any issues, please get them checked.
I think this is a question that can only be answered by a physician. So hie thee there!
It's easy to attribute every problem to heart but there are so many things it could be from a herniated disc, trapped nerve, gall bladder problems. See your GP.
