Private Health Care Insurance abroad, Not travel insurance

My husband (who has COPD, diabetic, cancer in remission) and I (having undergone OHS 2 years ago) are seriously considering moving semi-permanently to a warmer climate (in S.E. Asia). The problem is there appears to be a bar in purchasing any type of Health Care Insurance for persons over age 70. Hubby is 75.

All the big boys:- AIA, Pru, etc confirms commencement of policy Age 70 or below, after which they will insure till 80. Hubby is 75. Even BUPA is no help.

There is one company willing to cover, up to USD500,000 hospitalisation care only, for an annual premium of USD10,500.

Any suggestions, anybody????

You could try Saga (AXA) but I'm afraid it's unlikely any insurance company will provide international long term health cover for a 75 year old with pre existing conditions.

I would speak to an insurance broker, preferably in the country you are choosing to reside in, if you ever need to claim they are often worth their weight in gold, particularly somewhere where the language may be a barrier.Cover is always available, the size of the premium reflects the risk.

I suppose the thing is that insurance companies like scenarios where they are taking your premiums and not so likely to have to pay out, hence the bar on situations that are likely to become the opposite. What is your budget? Would it be possible to consider somewhere warm that is closer to home that might be cheaper to manage?
