Wrist cuffs are known to be unreliable hence not used by NHS.

The Omron watch above has an inflatable band built into the strap so I would not trust it.

None of the other type of wrist watches I have researched this week are reliable in my view.

The inaccuracy of wrist BP monitors increases with age particularly over 40, more so if the user is either diabetic or/and a smoker/ex-smoker.

There is something callled the AliveCor Kardia Mobile that is an app that works with a smartwatch, but I think its £100. It does seem to be recommended by cardiologists, but look it up and be skeptical!

We bought a wrist monitor, but it was very variable. The upper arm one agrees well with professional readings, so I don't think a watch would be much use.I also have a step counter on my phone, and another on a watch, and they never agree by quite a large amount. The watch pulse rate is good, and the Radley watch was only £25 from John Lewis.

I did a bit if research on this when choosing my smart watch. As others have said , no wrist based blood pressure monitor us as accurate as a cuff and even the producers and researchers of the top quality products with in built wrist cuffs or finger screen monitors suggest that blood pressure results as yet should only be viewed as a general guide of your BP rather than an accurate diagnostic reading.

Part of the problem is that in watches without cuffs the BP is usually based upon your wrist pulse ( heart rate ) reading , which in itself is quite accurate on a smart watch as a measure of heart rate , but the BP is based on a logarithmic measure of what BP a healthy person usually has with that heart rate level.

So , in general, a good bp guideline for a healthy person just using it to monitor exercise or length of time doing Cardio but not good for a heart patient with things like afib or a condition like mine , a tachycardia syndrome whom need very accurate results .

My heart rate changes rapidly with position movements. Like all people with Chronic Dysautonomia, standing is my Cardio. My heart rate swings and races up but my blood pressure drops. On my smart watch , when my heart rate is 130+ it will show me as hypertensive with an abnormal diastolic pressure. My cuff will show a normal or low blood pressure for the same reading .

Notice , though , I did say I have a smart watch.

Although not accurate for giving BP , it does give a pretty spot on heart rate reading and helps me track if my tachycardia is getting too high while I exercise so that I know to slow down or use my breathing technique to slow it.

It helps me keep track of how much exercise I do each day and the number of calories I use which is useful in keeping you motivated in recovery , or , importantly, stop you overdoing it with exercise and putting your recovery back .

I can also track all this on the app , and the automatic heart rate readings 24/7 give me a good record to show my Cardio evidence of the bad days.

Most watches also have a breathing exercise on it to help you regulate your breath to calm down if you get dizzy or have palpitations and you can check your heart rate is reducing again and breath until you feel right again . The sleep monitor us also useful if you get broken sleep with your heart condition or apnea. It can tell you how much deep sleep you had during a night's sleep or show when you were restless.

But , most standard, budget smart watches do all of these functions as well as the more expensive ones .

So if you were going to buy a more expensive one in the belief that it is better for using to track your blood pressure more accurately, it isn't worth it, and can't be trusted for use by someone with a genuine heart issue or health condition that effects blood pressure abnormally .

Get a recommended cuff for before and after exercise and a well reviewed budget smart watch instead.

I have a Galaxy Smart Watch 4 which you have to calubrate with a BP arm monitor on a regular basis to check accuracy. It works very well surprisingly

As mentioned by someone wrist blood pressure is not too accurate hence not seen on watches. I use Omron cuff which will detect irregular heart beat - if consistently irregular take the recording say 3 times and ask Gp or pharmacist to take manually also. Many use Kardia but I don’t know about that I’m afraid re Watches for other recordings and fall alerts I use Apple which likes to my phone and updates info to show EP/Gp

Initially I used this watch with a pulse oximeter and they were virtually the same for HR & O2

The operative word is "accurate". If it takes blood pressure as accurately as any of the ones I've had take pulse rate, I really wouldn't bother. Any that I have tried invariably range from miles too low to double what it actually is. Not good. I only really use them for recording routes, distance and ascent.

Hi after having a stent fitted over a year ago I bought an Apple Watch it has all the things your looking for. In the early days though I seemed to be looking for problems that weren’t there I still wear the watch but not as much as the initial purchase

Yes it only does ecg's but the 6L does them really well. Its also the only thing Ive found that can give an accurate heart rate when Im in AF/A Flutter with a rapid pulse. No use for taking readings during exercise though. My Samsung active 2 watch does an OKish 1 lead ecg , heart rate, blood oxygen and supposedly blood pressure. All apart from the blood pressure seem to work well. So Im guessing bp is difficult to implement on a watch.

I have a SATM watch, it does steps, sleep, heart rate, exercise, blood pressure,& spo2, bought from Amazon for just under £50.00, I find it useful, ps it tells the time aswell.

Nope, I don’t think any smart watch could do what you listed.

Hi Barry. I had the same dilemma and settled on finger pulse reader which also gives me my oxygen level. It is small and light and easy to use.
