left Side paralysis and flying

Hi ,I recently had an ablation which was only partial due to damage to the phrenic nerve. I have been left short of breath on exertion due to possible paralysis of left side diaphragm but can walk, talk and work as long as I don’t over do it. My question is I’m going on a long hall flight to America and am worried I will be ok to fly, has anyone else flown with this issue. Thanks

Hello :-)

I have not been through what you have but straight away I thought ask your Consultant or your Doctor to email them if they give you the all clear then go and enjoy America but make sure they are happy first :-) x

You need to check with your GP. Hope you don’t mind me asking but was your travel insurance expensive when you informed them of your condition?

I am interested as to whether the damage to your phrenic nerve was caused by the ablation or otherwise. I had a trapped phrenic nerve caused by one of my ICD leads. Fortunately they eventually managed to solve the problem on the 13th attempt. Apparently there were 16 options before it became impossible. It had meant I could not sleep on my left side without going into spasms.but did not affect my breathing.

Hi, yes from a cryo ablation, lost capture of the nerve and had to stop whilst doing the 3rd vein, having a X-ray at some point to see how it’s going. Short of breath on left side when exercising to fast.
