Hi all I’m a vegetarian and have been for years but after my recent heart problems I think I’m going to have to get some omega3 fish oil to h try and help my heart a bit, I won’t go back to eating fish and I’m against the oil really but if it helps me now I’ve got my new pipe work I want to look after them.
My question really is what do others take quantity and brand there are so many to choose from and all different prices, I don’t want anything to expensive but at the same time are the cheap ones rubbish?
Thanks

For what it's worth I think you're going in the right direction.
I have read that many fish oils aren't as wholesome as they make out. I'm afraid I don't have a specific brand name to recommend, but it's worth digging deeper with some research before buying, apparently some are little more than blended up fish by-products.
Jako good post. I cannot recommend either way as I am not a dietitian or medical person but it is really encouraging that you recognise the need maybe to change a small thing to help maintain your health. I love fish so I am a bit bias but hopefully you find a solution if needed without going against your vegetarian belief. I am all for people who try to help themselves
Good luck
Dear Jako999
Omega three one of the hardest vitamins to have as a supplement { easy for the fish eaters } and one of the most important building blocks on the vitamin table.
So I am vegan { non flag waving type } but i have put a lot of family and friends onto the vegan Omega three, why? Because studies have shown how bad omega three is on the market, a lot being rancid, out of date, most at a lower strength than advertised.
They are allowed to advertise the max that the strength can be not the actual content { I know you can’t write this stuff }
A few years back it was so hard to get a decent amount of omega three into my body that I nearly took fish extract { before reading about it }
So if you like flax seeds { crushed on porridge i like } thats a good source or if you want a one a day capsule then the vegan one comes out on top { far better, stronger and purer than fish }
I get mine at Vegan Vitality a small english firm that specialises in vitamins for vegetarians and vegans.
Cheap, no but their multi vitamin is fantastic and so is their Omega three, you really do get what you pay for in this case as a lot of the high street stuff will just go through you.
Even a basic multi vitamin tablet is a complex combination that needs to balance itself in the body
DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING without asking your Dr/Cardiologist first, there could be an interaction with your other medication.
If you are prepared to take fish oil supplements, why not eat some oily fish? (I was recommended to eat some once a week, ) Then you know what you are taking.
take a look at krill oil,it doesnt oxidise (go off) as quick as fish oil and is just as good if not better for omega 3 intake.i also eat 2 packets per week of the large 250g packets of smoked salmon the main supermarkets sell.
