I’m worried about the meds clashing I’ve already had big reaction to ranolazine . Had water infections over a year which is related to the diabetes but the new pill dapagliflozin can cause severe water infections so nervous to add this to metformin on top of my long list of heart medication can anyone who takes this let me know if it’s ok as it says online 56% disagree with the results many thanks

hi would anybody tell me if they have heart condition and diabetes type 2 just about to start a second diabetes tablet and worried
Medication affects different people in different ways so what is good for you may not be good for someone else & vice versa. I take a whole raft of heart medication plus I'm also T2 but controlled by Insuliin as never got on with Metformin. You may need to consult your doctor.
I've been on Metformin for over 20 yrs, it's the only one I can take, but I think you are concerned with the other one. I'm on 2 Metformin a day, plus Glyxambi 25mg/ 5mg mix, just last week gp added Glimepiride 2mg. I did another change in diet in Mar, so she was surprised that my long range sugars had increased. She can see from my weight that I'm trying harder, she said my body is getting tired of fighting diabetes, it is difficult when you have a range of health issues and 24 tablets a day, 8 a day for my heart. Probably not the same as your medication, but what I'm saying is, taking others meds besides your heart medication is ok, they can control the mix. If you have problems with infections, I found if you lean forward to properly empty your bladder, you avoid them a lot. I used to have issues, now don't. I do hope you tolerate the med, as keeping diabetes in check helps with your heart. But we are all different, they can try another. Take care. Moni
All medication queries relating to your personal circumstances are best answered by your GP or prescribing health person who can offer an professional opinion based on your needs. I suggest you don't rely on the internet, nor people on here since they are, in the main, not medically qualified and their experiences may not be applicable to you.
Hi, I'm on three meds for type 2 diabetes, metformin, glickizide and empaflaglozin. The 3rd one is renowned for water infections/cystitis but I've never suffered this side effect. I also take Bisoprolol and Rosuvastatin. I think the key is to drink loads of water. These diabetes meds work by taking glucose away in your urine so you need to wee more. Keep your urine straw coloured and you should be OK. Good luck.
I’m on a number of medications for my heart and also have T2 diabetes and take Metformin. I’ve just had an additional medication added that works in a similar way to the medication you have referred to.
My GP went into a lot of detail when we discussed adding a further medication. Essentially the new medication will mean that I will be passing sugar in my urine and as such this increases the risk of thrush and UTI’s. She advised that I must remain hydrated and ensure that I pass sufficient urine.
In general it’s very much about looking after yourself and your general well being. I’m very lucky that I have an understanding GP that takes time to discuss things with me, but this is not always the case for everyone as many GP’s are pushed for time.
If you have concerns about the medication maybe you could discuss this with the surgery, it could be a GP, nurse or the pharmacist as there are often options now that don’t mean you have to discuss everything with the GP.
They may be able to help you understand how you can get the best out of the new medication.
Hope this improves your situation.
