Hi I'm a 39 year old male who 7 weeks ago got diagnosed with viral myocarditis. I'm on beta blockers and anti-inflammatory drugs I'm still getting alot of chest pain is this normal? I tried going back to my job sat on a ride on lawnmower this week but only lasted 3 days which is frustrating. Also I have to go back for an echocardiogram has anyone had this for a follow up instead of the usual MRI scan?
Viral myocarditis : Hi I'm a 39 year... - British Heart Fou...
Viral myocarditis
Morning, yes unfortunately chest pain is entirely normal. I was off work for 3 months (desk job) and could barely walk 10ft to the kitchen because of chest pain and breathlessness. I'm over a year later and still have chest pain even whilst doing nothing.I had 2 MRIs one to diagnose and one 5-6 months later to assess recovery. I have residual scaring and no guarantees it won't return. I still can't walk upstairs/hills without chest pain/ getting breathless but take no meds. I was on colchicine and omeprazol. Hope this helps.
Hiya, so sorry you are suffering. Sadly your symptoms are quite normal so try not to worry - easier said than done though!Your heart has gone through a major ordeal and 'time and rest' is the best medicine. Don't do too much too soon is the best advice I can give - however frustrating that may seem - your heart is a muscle and needs time to recover.
Im 4.5years on but was left with some permanent damage. Echo's are a standard test and will be able to assess if there is still swelling etc and hopefully reassure you that this is going down & improving. Good luck in your journey.
Hi I’m in the same boat. 41M. Post ‘viral’ myocarditis. I got chest pains whilst racing (running - 1st May) and ended up in A&E a few weeks later. I’ve had an Angio and echo which looked fine and now I’m waiting for an MRI to confirm the myocarditis. I still have chest pains/ discomfort but they improve when I rest. It’s driving me crazy as I was so active before I ran most days and cycled to work which have all had to stop. I’ve read loads around this and in people our age there’s a good chance it will clear up in 3-6 months and we can get back to a bit of normality. Hang in there and take it easy when you can.
