hi all, i am having a torrid time, i was on bisoprolol 5mg but due to side effects the Dr decided to lower me to 2.5mg, that caused a series of palpitations and chest ache (no pain) after 1 week he has now stopped it altogether and put me on Diltiazem, he said wait 24 hours before starting them, i did, i have had a day of non stop palpitations, feeling on edge, feeling anxious abd that dreaded chest ache again, how long will this last, is this normal. thanks

My suggestion go back to your GP who is best placed to organise your medication according to your specific needs. People on here can only give an opinion but cannot directly provide a solution for you.

Hi seaphin, maybe you won't be able to tolerate beta blockers, but I would say it is too soon to tell. The more we think about something, the worse it gets. Its like lying in bed unable to sleep because of all your worries, which miraculously don't seem so bad in the morning 🤷‍♂️ Try to ignore the side effects and act as you normally would and hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Hi seaphin,

I can see why your GP has prescribed Diltiazem as this helps suppress arterial spasms (I was prescribed this for the first 6 weeks after my bypass). As with all medications, some will work for you, some won't. It will take several days for any medication to become wholly effective, so maybe the best course of action would be to let your GP know what is happening, but be prepared to give it a few more days. If this does prove to be ineffective, then there should be an alternative available.

With my best wishes,

Gerald

Hi Seaphin,I took bisoprolol for 4 &1/2 months. What had been occasional palpitations steeply increased on this medication. The ectopics became constant - 24/7, often bigeminy/trigeminy.

5 months off this drug, while continuing with my BP medication, and increasing magnesium (taurate), the ectopics are next to nonexistent.

My fatigue level is restored as well.

Certainly discuss with your physician. Beta blockers are not for everyone. I would only take one again if there was no other alternative. Good luck!
