Hello :-)

I think there are a few more blood thinners they can try you on I was on one calle Ticagrelor I am not sure if you have tried that one ?

I would talk with your Doctor again , I know it gets you down but they will hopefully be able to find an alternative that you won't keep getting this problem with when you take it :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hi Breesha,

I tried all the modern anticoagulants (apixaban, edoxaban, rivaroxaban, ect) but found I could not tolerate any of them. Three months ago my cardiologist prescribed the now rather "old fashioned" warfarin, which thankfully suits me perfectly.

Have a word with your doctor/cardiologist.

Hi BreedhaI’m on apixaban and suffer with gout in my knees ‘ this happens every few months’ my doctor tells me to exercise and try to not be on my knees for a length of time. It is annoying but it only lasts about a fortnight and I can cope with that’ good luck !!!

If it was gout it’s too painful to excecise , but Gout is relieved with diet , NOTHING with malt, beer ,Horlicks, stock cubes, no sardines or shellfish , check out the Gout diet it’s all low purines , I stick to the Arthritis Society diet and am fine normally , but this seems to be with the new blood thinners.

I had gout a few times before I had a heart attack. My GP failed to diagnose it (can you believe it) I was in agony.I went to a rheumatologist who took a quick look and said Gout.

When the flare up subsided (with the help of intravenous steroids), he prescribed Allopurinol. I have taken them since and not been troubled with gout.

After the MI, they put me on Rivaroxaban clopidogrel and aspirin.

I no longer take the clopidogrel. At no time have I had any gout flare up, and that is 2 years on blood thinners of one sort or another..

Gout is linked to Food, all purine rich food, Liver , kidney, red meat ( in excess) mushrooms , asparagus, sardines, shellfish , all high in purines , I control my gout by Observing the low purine diet , but recently been changed from Warfarin … Apixaban seemed to almost instantly give me gout, and I have now had Edoxaban and Xaralto , all seem to cause gout. , was just interested to see if anyone else had symptoms. , and you cannot rely on the blood test , it’s not always an accurate measure of Uric acid, creating clearance.
