Bisoprolol with low heart rate

Hi,

I suffer from heart palpitations but don’t get them often but I live in high functioning anxiety because of them. I have been given Bisoprolol to try but didn’t take it because I was managing them but they have gotten bad again and today when I was super relaxed I have had a bad run of palpitations. My resting heart rate is 69-75 is taking bisoprolol a good idea? Also please tell me what to do I am so scared to live with them even though they don’t happen every day.

Thanks

Your HR is high enough for beta blockers. It would probably drop your heart rate by about 8 beats to 10 max.

Honestly I wouldn’t worrie if I were you your resting heart rate is within the normal range if it’s making you feel uncomfortable then take them. Regarding your anxiety, my heart rate was 130bpm average resting rate and the doctors still told me I have nothing to worry about, but I understand where your anxiety is coming from considering your younge and you have two kids. I’m the same 34 years old with two kids but I’m in permanent flutter so just be thankful it’s not permanent and I promise it will get better try not to think about them

Hello Friends. My understanding is that a resting HR of 60-75 is excellent. Absolutely bang slap within an ideal range. My resting HR is frequently much lower than that, i.e. high 40s to low 50s so a drop in rate owing to medication shouldn't cause you problems. Your medical specialist will most likely have taken your HR into account when prescribing.Regarding palpitations, I have those too. The advice I've had is not to sleep on my left side, opt for sleeping on my back or right side instead with good pillow support. One pillow for sleeping on the back, two pillows for sleeping on the right side. I also use a pillow between my knees when lying on my side to keep my hip and lower back well aligned.

Importantly, deep breathing exercises might help relieve anxiety and stabilize a racing heart. Correct breathing is harder to do than many realize and has all sorts of benefits when its properly done. We need to breathe from the base of our lungs rather than the top. The base of the lung is where all the oxygen exchange takes place; it's less effective from the top of our lungs and this "shallow" breathing can be exhausting and unproductive. Here's a web reference to explain how it works:

bing.com/videos/search?q=br... Focus on each breath to the exclusion of all other thoughts. Blank your mind. This is harder to do than it sounds and takes practise!

I hope this is helpful for you.

Rest assured you are not alone in suffering anxiety, but why would you not trust your cardio's advice & try the medication they have prescribed for you. Far better than asking for advice on what you should do on here , reading peoples experiences is ok but cannot take the place of your own medic professional. Best wishes.

I take 10 ml per day to try to keep it under control but it was getting worse so had to go on amiodarone as well which has got in under control now the side effects I’m getting are my eyes and my skin is now sensitive to the sun and been told I could go blue if I go in the sun which I love doing

I get them but have pretty much figured out it is usually a combo of any of too much booze, coffee, heat, travel and Xmas time which triggers them. I take daily Mg and and hydrate more frequently and try not to get rattled by Brexit does the job.

Hi there,

As you know, none of us can give you medical advice on this form, but we can talk about our experiences and try to be as supportive as possible.

I had a heart attack last year and was given bisoprolol along with other drugs to keep my heart healthy. I think it very much depends on the reason you are prescribed them? I was given them to slow my heart down a wee bit and have less pressure placed on my heart. I have had no issues with them, but I know people who have. We are all different in the way we react to medication arn't we ? I would perhaps try to talk to your GP and see what their advice is. I hope you get this sorted out and start to feel better soon.

Has your GP practice got a clinical pharmasist? Mine worked with my GP to work out and explain my drugs. GP wanted to increase bisoprolol but the pharasist asked him to increase the Ramapril as my pulse was 60 - 70 bpm. I have been very anxious too, and I suffer from anxiety and have done for a long time, to like you, I worry about changing anything especially meds!

Sorry about your palpitations. I had this about a month ago . For me I think it was too much tea and the palpitations meant anxiety. Anyway I was given an ecg and it was fine (I had heart bypass) Doctor told me to give up tea and not to get worked up too much. The palpitations went. Always worth checking with a doctor though

Oh sorry wrong post 🙂

I take the Biso at night-it reduced my HR too much in the day for normal activities, but at night I sleep well. If you are anxious all the time perhaps some meditation or mindful breathing and practice might help-put aside a few minutes each day for YOU! Your heart will carry on but anxiety ups the cortisol which is not good all the time.
