Target heart rate on Bisoprolol

Hi All.

On Cardiologist advice have stopped BP medication in favour of increasing Bisoprolol dose. Seems to work but Unfortunately the wording is “ increase dose as much as heart will allow”!!!

Not particularly specific, have increased up to 3.75mg in the morning. BP great but in the morning my pulse is low 50s. ( feel quite spacey!! ) Levels Increased as day goes on.

Cant get clearer guidance of cardiologist as doesn’t reply to emails. Can only find online that below 60 could be an issue. Has anyone got experience or been given more exact advice?

All comments appreciated.

cheers

Colin

I’m on 5mg Bisoprolol and 85 bpm whilst sitting down is pretty good for me, but I suffer from tachycardia.

I'm on 2.5 and over the last 3 months since HA my resting heart rate has steadily dropped and now at 50 or even 47 in the day. Who knows how low at night! Not getting any dizziness or anything but I feel uneasy at this rate and often my chest aches. My target heart rate on discharge was less than 65. I left hospital on 3.75 with them expecting it to be increased as tolerated. In fact I got it reduced by gp after a couple of weeks and am on verge of going back to get it reduced again. If we become more active, change diet etc and the numbers come down, surely the expectation should be meds reduce too? Can't seem to get at a cardiologist to answer so just relying on gp.

Thanks, yes makes sense to me to adjust to what’s happening. Maybe a call to the BHF nurses for additional advice?

Sodp Thank you. Am just on way to gp to talk about dropping to 1.25. Not sure if they will without significant symptoms. Have you tried or are you sticking with it?

@heartmum56 , unless I have a symptoms cardiologist suggestions was to continue taking 2.5 . At the moment I have minimum symptoms. Continue for now I guess

Hi Iv been on bisoprolol for about 7 years and my pulse is 50ish a lot of the time and if I bend down to do something I feel light headed I’m on 10mg a day I was on 12.5 but that wasn’t keeping my heart under control so as a last I had to go on Amiodarone which has worked but I was told I will need to take the Bisoprolol for the rest of my live. I go by what my cardiologist advises

Hello Why would you think below 60 is an issue ?? I am on 7.5mg and just done a check HR is 64 with a BP of 101/61 this is .before taking daily meds, I am 6 ft Guy (1.82) 15st ( 95kg ) age 75.

I walk a couple of miles most days and manage to do all the normal Daily Chores, OK I couldn't bend down to tie my shoe laces but hey ho bought slip on shoes!!

My cardiologist reduced Bisoprolol from 10mg to 7.5mg when my HR was dropping down to 33 during the Night but of more concern was it was pausing for around 3 seconds. I do take Entresto and Dapa so don't know if they all get on together to affect Heart Rate ?

Hi

Thanks for the comments, I read that below 60 , unless you’re an athlete, can be classed as Bradycardia. But maybe that’s if you’re not on meds..

Cheers

BP a bit low there..I usually check BP before taking meds..and do not take if BP is already lower..I am on Entresto and Bisoprolol...absolute lowest dose..the 2.5 beta Bl. I cut into 3..the Entresto 50mg also cut into 3...and take usually 2 times entresto and once Bisoprolol..but sometimes do not take any..because it would lower BP too much..Cardiologist is fine with this..he did ask me to try to add one more dose of the Beta Blocker when I can..after one year..my EF went from 35 to 47..and my heart problem is LBBB...I do an echo and ECG twice yearly..

dear Colin

I took bisoprolol for a few months, then my GP switched me to other meds. This was all about getting my BP down. It is now reasonable. My heart rate is in the 50s and 60s . When it gets below 50 then I ring 111.

I am not over weight and I think this is relevant.

Do talk to the BHF nurses. You need some professional advice. Lots of us here want to help but all we can do is give you our own experiences and we are not medics.

Best wishes

Best to talk to your GP/Cardiologist to clarify what is a good HR for you and whether ot not below 60 is an issue. My resting heart rate is often low 50s and then into 40s if really chilled or asleep. We are all very different so what is low for one may be normal for another. I was started on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol after my NSTEMI but after 3 months of dropping into 30s and feeling like a Zombie mine was stopped after a review with Cardiologist.

I am on 2.5 mg Nebivolol with heart rate about 45. Apart from needing a daytime nap it feels fine.

Check your BP before increasing your medication..we also have to be proactive ourselves..our doctors are like advisors..but you are looking after your own body and have daily results of your BP and pulse

Thanks, that’s my way of thinking.

Does your heart rate stay that low throughout the day?I'm only on 2.5 mg, but my HR was always 60-ish, now it's low to mid 50s, sometimes lower. I also take Perindopril, which also lowers HR and BP so take that 12 hrs after the Bisoprolol, having checked with GP.

Perhaps you could ask about taking 2.5 mg in the morning and a further 1.25 mg in the evening. As it's an alteration in the times rather than the dose your GP could advise.

Not what you're looking for?
