Ramipril increase

I have heart failure it was diagnosed 5 or 6 years ago. I am on bisoprosil 5 mg and ramapril 5 mg. After a recent medication review, my blood pressure was up in the the 160/65 range and so my GP increased ramapril 7.5 mg and after a month, to 10mg daily, which I have started about 2 wks ago. Today, I have noticed feeling light headed and slightly faint for a while and my blood pressure has dropped to 140/69 which is the best it's been for a long time. Does anyone know if the dizziness goes off after a while. I have not had side effects before with Ramipril.

Having been on Amlodopine 10mg and Ramipril 2.5mg daily since Nov. 2020 my side effects including light headedness wore off after 6 months as I got used to the dose.

Recently my BP climbed up again (due to caffeine) as a precaution my Ramipril was increased to 5mg daily and I have again been sometimes light headed more alike not having slept and a few muscular aches and pains.

I suspect that once again the side effects will wear off with time.

Good luck..

2 months on almost all side effects have gone.

Dear woodbon

You are describing a classic side effect of upping the Ramipril and you really should have been warned of this, slowly standing etc by your provider.

The answer to your question varies from person to person, my own experience when I reached the 10mg a day mark {5mg morning and 5mg evening} was similar to you and that feeling went off after a few weeks.

I have been taken off Ramipril now and it has been replaced with Entresto which to date have little to no side effects for me.

I would keep a note of your new feelings on the Ramipril so you can tell your provider {sounds like some God figure !} on your next meeting, but if the symptoms get worse then phone your Dr/Heart team/111.

Take care and please keep us informed.

I will let you know how things go. The trouble is that our surgery is busy and different staff give you different advice and speaking to the same person twice is impossible, it seems!

I had heart failure in October 2020 and was put on a coctail of drugs including Ramipril, Bisoprolol, Clopidogrel and others. Still on them today. My blood pressure is very low so the HF Team nurse took me from the initial 3.75 mg up to 7.5 mg over 9 months but I had days where dizziness was so bad I'm back to the 3.75 mg dose.

I believe Ramipril reduces blood pressure and gives the dizziness. The advice I get is to get up slowly and wait a koment for the heart to settle, blood pressure to normalise and then the dizziness is better. In reality I tend to just get up and go which always brings on the dizziness, guess it's an automatic reaction.

Please do keep making doctor aware of the effects and get the dose adjusted to suit you as we're all different and need personalised support.

All the best for the future.

Thank you, that is good advice. My BP was lower yesterday so may be that caused it. I have another drug to add when the Chemist dispences it. I just frightened myself a bit, but I had been leaning forward for a while then stood up quickly. Hope all goes well for you.

Hi, I am sorry to hear you are suffering from dizziness and light handedness. I suffered the same when I began taking Ramipril and was advised to take it at bedtime which really helps. It definitely calmed down as time passed. I hope this helps you.

2 days ago i went from 1.25mg to 2.5mg, take it at night and after food. today whilst out shopping, dizziness and a weird disconnect/fuzzy feeling. im not taking it for blood pressure, my last reading was 110/70 before upping the dose, wish i had a BP reader at home, not enjoying this feeling at all.

There are a couple of other side effects of Ramipril I experienced: face flushing which didn't last long and disconcerting musculoskeletal chest pains, I got mine checked out but they were just muscle twinges in the chest area which disappeared in time.

Hello, thank you so much for your support. I have just started to feel a lot better and more in control of the dizzyness from my 10 mg of ramapril and my bp was started to drop a bit but my GP has given me a script for another drug to add in which should help reduce it a bit more. I have heart failure and the best way to keep it controlled is my blood pressure, I'm told. I have aortic and mitral valve problems, but not enough for surgery yet!
