Hope you guys are all well and safe. I have recently been diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve as well as an ascending aorta. As a result I have turned to part time for work to try and take things just a little bit easier. My question is am I entitled to any sort of financial help i.e benefits?
Any advice or help shall be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards

If it’s been rolled out where you live, you may be eligible for universal credit depending on your circumstances. To be considered eligible they look at your income, any savings you have, and/or the income of any partner or spouse you live with. The savings threshold is that anything under £6000 is disregarded, anything between £6k and £16k will effect the amount you receive, and if you have more than £16k in savings you won’t be eligible. If UC hasn’t been rolled out in your area yet, then you may be entitled to old style, so-called legacy benefits like income support and housing benefit, however these will also be effected by personal circumstances in a similar way to UC. Depending on if/how your condition effects you day to day, you may also be eligible to apply for personal independence payments. Unlike UC and legacy benefits, this isn’t means tested in any way, but receipt is dependent on the impact of the health conditions you have being sufficiently limiting.
The easiest way to check what benefits and rules apply in your area and what you’re likely to be entitled to would be to use a free benefits calculator like Turn2Us. I’ve used them a couple of times previously and they were spot on:
Citizens advice can give you the information you need b ut if you do apply for anything be aware it can take many months and be very stressful. I would strongly advise you to join the Benefits and work website ( a small charge) before applying for anything. They have very detailed advice on how to fill them in. Believe me it's minefield, Most people get turned down immediately and have to appeal or even go to tribunal. Do NOT do it on your own. Chances are, if you are working part time, they will automatically turn you d own.
